Gotta get this off my chest! Rant!

If you have read the thread entitled protecting property and family in the debate forum then you have a heads up on what I am talking about. So tonight, yet again, Chase is in my yard. The boyfriend of one of the teenage daughters is also in my yard trying to catch him. I thought he was pretty reasonable until he told me that when he caught the dog he planned to beat it . I told him, chase him into my yard so I can get ahold of him and I will take him to the shelter where he belongs, he agreed. We walked to the front of my house and at that point his girlfriend comes over and starts to scream at me about if I hurt her dog she will kick my ***! Also that she would hurt my animals! I explained to her that she was the one hurting her dog by letting it run loose around the neighborhood. She continued to attempt to engage me in fighting her, lol. I told her boyfriend to get her out of here before I went off on her, she said come on bitch, I'll beat the shi! out of you myself. I laughed and said you are a child and not worth the time and that I was going to call 911 becasue she threatened me and my family.
So I called 911, explained the situation and they had a detective call me back. I explained it again to him and he agreed to go and issue them a warning about the dog. Of course they didn't answer their door, big suprise there.
I am so ticked off it is unbelieveable, I have a huge tummy ache now . I was advised to continue trying to contact animal control and to go down there if they didn't call me back. I asked him what was within my legal rights regarding removing the dog from my property if he is acting aggressively. Wanted to make sure that I had the right to bring him to the shelter, etc. and to use force if he was aggressive. Well within my rights I was informed.
I am thinking the only way this is ever going to be resolved is if I go to their house when the dog is actually tied up outside for potty and just take him and bring him to the shelter. I am very willing to risk doing this at this point. I am sure that they would be unwilling to pay the fines to get him out. He doesn't have any tags on so thats a fine, he was found unleashed, another fine. They don't care enough about him to bail him out I am pretty sure.
Sorry for the rant, i am just really upset right now, both for my family's safety as well as for their dog's safety.

ARGH!!!

Oh gods, what a horrible situation. Had to giggle at the girl trying to fight you though. Some people, eh?
Glad to hear you're within your rights to take the dog to the shelter though. I think he'd be better off there, by the sounds of it.

Good luck with it all.

Cass.

I know right! Like me, someone who has done self defense since I was itty-bitty, karate since I was tiny, is going to fight a teenager! Ridiculous. Now I am concerned for my animals though. I can just see them putting something laced in my yard. At least I know they can't get close enough to my dogs to actually harm them and they aren't usually outside unsupervised but this is going to be stressful.

I called animal control tonight and left an extremely detailed message about the issue, hopefully they will get into action and do something about it.

I believe these are the kind of people who wouldn't want to have the hassel of going through this again and since they have beaten the dog they currently have there is hope they could be prosecuted and not allowed to own any animals in the future, I am keeping my fingers crossed on that one!

Have you considered taking them through civil court?

I wasn't aware that that would be an option. Could you elaborate a bit on that, anything I can do to get that dog to a safer location and protect furture dogs by being owned by this idiot parent would be much appreciated. I am saddened to think that her children are now going to be old enough soon to be animal owners on their own, they have a very sad role-model to follow!

Well, I'd check with a local attorney to be certain since I'm not up on the laws in your state but in some states the things your describing would actually be considered via civil court for maintaining a common nuisance as well as infringing on what would be considered ones own personal safety in their own home.

Thanks much Crossfire, I will certainly contact an attorney to see if I would have a case. I appreciate your help! I hate it when life gets complicated .

No kidding. And an applause to you for not losing your self-control blowing your head off at the girl. I don't know if I'd have been able to do that. lol
I also think it is kinda ironc that she said that if you hurt her dog, she'd hurt you, whereas she beats her dog. Poor pup. I hope everything works out for your sake and his.

I know exactly how you feel!

When we were new pet owners, there were a couple of particularly problematic stray cats around the hood.

From time to time, a particularly cocky one would not only attack beyond terrotorial boundaries, but also stalk and follow us home. Without going into a long discourse, violent fights used to occur just outside our doorstep!

Enough was enough! Calling animal rescue would put a lot of people in a very difficult position as there were many 'sensitive' issues involved. Once, when it got particularly bad with a really viscious part-siamese who wouldn't budge even after I whacked it and broke a broom-stick, I went on a full-scale hunt with my bow.

Before any of you start comdemming me, nothing happened, and we actually managed to make one of the previous prepetrators a friend of our family after lots of coaxing, bribery and offering of OUR private space - once I saw that it was an issue of the perception that their previous territory being encroached upon. Also, contrary to what some of you may think after reading the earlier bits, I have ever only been involved in a fist-fight once, and that was in high-school!

But if it were a matter of my dogs' or cat's eye-balls, limbs and safety, I put myself in between them and the threat. PERIOD. As for threats of a human nature, I always try to ensure that the potential for a dificult situation is avoided.

Oh Mom2many, sorry for the insensitive rant on my part. It's just that your post brought back all those memories...

admirable handling of a horrible situation. Next time i would just call the police right out and make a complaint about a stray. Dont give them any warning.
