Suggestions -- keeping the dog warm in the winter
Now I probably won't get a ton of sympathy, but our weather actually does get a little colder here. Add that to my shady, poorly-insulated house, and on winter nights the temperature inside drops into the low-mid 50s pretty regularly.
Running the heat is kind of out of the question because it just seems oppressive and horrible, for some reason... The humans are covered because we have lots of blankets, but what can I do for Winston? I'm thinking about buying him a nestling or burrow bed. Even considered the cat beds with the hoods on them, LOL. Will that be warm enough? He'll have his winter coat by then. Suggestions? |

I think one of those nesting beds and a blankie would be great. He'll be fine. He has lots of hair, doesn't he? Mid 50's isn't very cold. You'll know too, if he shivers. (I think they sell pajamas too.) LOL!

We try not turning on the heat either because of how expensive it is here. My little Chihuahua has a fur pouch she's slept in for many years and keeps very warm. Zada has a fur tunnel looking pouch and Azrael prefers the other fur pouch. I'd love to just throw them in my bed where they could snuggle up with me under the blankets but so for Azrael is just too much of a busy-body. I may try her again soon. Winston will stay nice and toasty with any kind of bed he could get inside of. With the pouches they don't even need a blanket.

Thanks! I feel better now. He does have his fur coat, and I'm sure I'll get something super-snuggly that he can burrow down into.

lol I'm in Canada... it gets COLD here!!! I'm glad you brought this up Kade, because I'm not sure about what I should do for Gizmo when the cold weather hits. It can easily get down to -35c with the wind in the winter. Not sure what that is in Farenheight, but I can assure you.... it's COLD.
![]() I'm possibly looking into booties for him, maybe a little winter jacket-type thing... not too sure! |

I am sure our house will be colder this yr too with costs going up. We have a fire plave, but it mainly heats the kitchen and livingroom. And if no one gets up in the night to stock the fire... well u know. I am learning though that buddy seems to like it cooler. He lays on the vents when the ac is on. But I am sure that a cold winter is different than being on ac vent. LOL We will need to find something for him as well.

What about a heated dog bed? Fosters & Smith has them at very reasonable prices.
