Angry I'm mad...another irresponsible dog owner.

Ok, here comes a story about an irresponbile dog owner.

My brother's girlfriend (whom I'm also kinda friends with) and her family got a "teacup" Chihuahua. Mostly, it was the doings of the younger son, Hunter.
He wanted a "teacup" Chi, and found one for 20$. My younger brother and sister are both good friends with Hunter, so as soon as he told them this, they went off on him. (I'm so proud of them...lol ) They were telling him all of the reasons not to do that, but he said, "I don't care. It's just a dog and its only 20$". (OMG says me.)
Anyways, I was hoping against all odds that his dad would say no and lay his foot down (he isn't a big fan of dogs, not to mention small ones), but apperentally, he didn't, because today Wesley (my younger bro) told me that they were thinking about getting rid of their Chi.
And the reason you ask? Get this...because it was too small and they couldn't see it when it was outside and they almost ran over it. When he said that, I swear that if I didn't dislike cursing so much, I would have started cussing right then and there in front of my parents. (Which would NOT have been good, BTW. So you know that when I curse, I'm super ticked. lol)
I mean, what in the he!! did they expect to get?!? A huge dog!?!?! I mean, number one, it was a Chi, and number two, it was a "teacup"!! That was the reason he wanted it in the first place, because it was small!!
That would be like somebody going and getting a Saint Bernard, and then deciding to get a Giant one, and then complaining that it was too big!

They are a nice family and all, but I plan to tell Hunter that my respect for him has went way down. He made a desicion even when he was being urged not to, and now it is the dog that is going to pay the price.

And I wasn't thrilled with the family even getting a dog because here are some of the comments I've heard from them:
"I want a teacup Chihuahua to dress up and carry around all of the time!"
"You have to give dogs bathes? I thought you just left them out in the rain or something."
"So. It's just a dog and it's only 20$"
"My dad doesn't want a Chihuahua...he says they are rats that have no hair."
"I don't see how they are going to take care of a puppy anyway...they are never at home." (That was my mom speaking.)

Ya. Doesn't that just scream "Go out and get a dog! It will be happy and healthy and well behaved with you always!" NOT

So ya, I'm over here blowing my head off right now. And it doesn't help just having our other friend's dog get hit, that our whole family has grown quite attached to BTW, and break his leg because they let him out alone in their yard...they live by a highway.
I'm just so glad that the little Budders didn't get squished...especially since he is a Shih Tzu and he got hit by a truck probably going around 65.

So ya, there is my rant for the day.

Wow, that's just awful. Although, is the dog full grown? Who sells a Chihuahua for Twenty bucks? :S Wait, re-read that and saw the comment your mother made. Someone sold a Chihuahua PUPPY for $20?????

omg...

Well, I don't know the specifics, but I'd be praying that they do get rid of it to a rescue/shelter who can place it in a home where the pup will get the proper love and care it needs. Wow. Unreal.

Oh, man! I feel your frustration too and don't blame you for wanting to cuss. Is there no way to talk any sense into these people? What a shame for the dog!

Hope the poor little fella finds a decent home. Is there any way you could help in that area? I know it's not your problem, it's just I wonder if they might not take proper care of the little guy ...seeing as they don't want him anymore. It just makes me sick to my stomach.

Yes, here's hoping the poor little guy finds a proper home. I don't blame you a bit for being outraged - the things you hear from people are unbelievable! I recall someone giving up their Cocker Spaniels because "they didn't match the new furniture." While volunteering at the Humane Society, I also remember seeing a pair of labs being given up because "it wasn't working out." Funny thing...after reading the rest of the information card it became pretty obvious WHY - when you lock two young, rambunctious dogs in a shed day and night and invest no time in them whatsoever, it's generally NOT going to work out.

Maybe you should give them the $20.00, take the little thing and find it a very loving home.

ACK!

while I have no issues with wanting a tiny dog to carry around...
or issues with dressing them up (if they'll put up with it, I'm actually hoping mine will. I don't have a little girl to dress up so....)...
Or prefering to spend less on the price of the dog itself (you already spend so much on bills, food, toys, and the whole setup)...

Why in the blue blazes would you go searching for a dog that was small and then get rid of it because it was (gasp) small?!?!?!?!?
It irks me when people go and take on responsibility for a living thing and think its like getting the latest designer purse.

If you want a disposable animal, get a feeder fish from the petstore.
