Moving
Well, Boone and I are moving into our own apartment tomorrow. It's my first place on my own, so I'm very very excited. I'm going this evening to pick up the keys! Along with being really pumped, I'm kinda anxious to make sure this move isn't too much for Boone. This will be his third home in the last 3 months. It's a lot to handle for such a little guy. Does anyone have any good tips on how to make this move as smooth as possible for him?
We're only moving to the next town over, so there won't be a lot of driving involved (though he loves to ride in the car). But a new home and all new furniture and things may upset him. Any thoughts? |

does he have a blanket or something he sleeps with? Something to confort him.
If so dont hide that from him, it may confuse him and upset it...I wouldnt pack it, just throw it in the car with the two of you and leave it out the whole time your packing and unpacking. Keep his favorite toys with him most if not all of the time too. |

Fireworks gave you good advice! Also just give him a little extra of you for the first week or two. He'll settle right in.
This is very exciting! Congratulations on your new place. Carrie |

I agree with Moonstar, do lots of exploring. Take him for lots of walks so he gets used to his new home and surroundings. If you have a yard for him don't pick his poo up right away so he can smell his own scent in the yard. That might help him with potty training. Some dogs move a few steps back in potty training when big changes like this happen. He will be fine after a few days when he sees his own bed and food dishes and toys all around. Everything that is important to him will be available and he will understand that your new house is still home to him.

I'm moving this weekend too. I'll be praying for good weather from both of us, but they are calling for rain here
I think the dogs room will be the last thing i move, that way when we take them to the new place they will see all our things there already. Might make the place feel more like home. Quote:

We don't have a huge yard like before (I lived with my parents after graduation to get some money saved up after college ) but we do have a small patio out back that has a little grassy area for him to go in. It's fenced in and nice. He finally decided to go poo out there Saturday night and he pees okay after a while. Of course, we had a few accidents in the house because I wasn't paying close enough attention with all the un-boxing and organizing stuff, but he's doing pretty good. He's getting used to everything and sniffing everywhere. We'll go for a walk tonight (weather will be great) and I'll show him around the neighborhood. I'm really looking forward to living on my own. I feel almost grown-up now. LOL! |
