Rocky’s first trip to Kentucky!
About every 4 to 5 weeks I go to Kentucky to see my Mom. It’s about a 3 to 4 hour trip depending on traffic and how fast I decide to drive. The speed limit is 55 mph, and it just kills me to drive that slowly! I guess Sammy was right, I can’t drive fifty five!
Anyways, it had been a long time since I went down to KY and my g/f had a concert she was going to Friday night. She couldn’t really watch Rocky b/c of the concert, and I decided to take him with me. He was such a good boy! He slept most of the way down there and on the way back. I left at around 7 AM Friday and Sunday after taking him out for his usual morning potty/meal. Normally he would be sleeping during the hours we were traveling so I figured that would be the best time for us to be on the road. I stopped about half way at a nice rest stop on 23 to let him out and give myself a break as well. While in Kentucky he was very well behaved. No potty accidents or anything! My Mom, Aunt Kathy and Grandma were really impressed! They kept complimenting him on how well behaved he was and how he knew what sit and down were. I was very happy about this b/c I didn’t want to bring in a terror of a dog to my Mom’s house. I may have been a little over zealous though with taking him outside, sometimes it was every 20 minutes or so. But I was bound and determined to make sure he didn’t have any accidents, and since there wasn’t a dog park or really any place to walk him it was good to get him outside to fart around a little bit. In the home I had some of his favorite toys to keep him engaged and out of trouble. Sleeping with him though was horrible. I put the crate in the room but he did not like being in the crate and not in the bed with me. That lasted about 30 seconds and I thought, heck, why not have him sleep with me. Well, he snored ALL NIGHT Friday. It was bad. I didn’t sleep more than an hour at a time, and we both were moving around every five seconds. Saturday night was better. He didn’t seem to snore as much, or I was so dead tired that I fell asleep anyways. We didn’t’ seem to be fighting over the bed and I got a pretty decent night sleep. I was really thankful that he didn’t have an accident because that was his first two nights outside of the crate! He stayed in bed the entire time so it worked out for the best I think. So all in all we had a fun adventure! I can’t wait to take him again; he made a fun traveling partner! ![]() |

Thanks RBW
I think Rocky had a pretty good time too. He really loves people and meeting new people. He even slept by my Mom's feet Saturday night for a little bit. He konked out pretty hard that night b/c he was up for the whole day without a nap. |

Awe I'm glad things went well! My oldest snors sooo loud and just good heavens you'd think it was a bear! My other two dream and whimper its the cutest thing to watch, but the most dreadful thing to listen to when your trying to sleep.

I'm so glad you found traveling and visiting with Rocky worked out so well and you actually found being with him on a trip was enjoyable. The sleeping thing does take time for them and you to adjust to, but the experience does deepen the bond. Wish one of my girls hadn't peed in the bed. That stopped me from sleeping with them.

calgal,
That is our biggest fear, pee/poop in the bed! We still don't trust him 100 percent on that, especially in our beds that are larger, (Queen, in KY I was sleeping in a twin). I still think we are going to keep him in the crate for sleep going forward, but we allow him some time in the bed with us before we go to bed. Usually we doze for a couple hours, then take him out one last time and put him in the crate. It seems to be working pretty well so far ![]() |
