I hope you find this. I moved it to the herding group since that's where GSDs belong. But of course, a herding dog works very hard. LOL. I love GSDs too...have had a couple. And my Dad grew up with them....had one after the next for years. He had one named Hilda who would let the delivery man walk right in the house, down the basement to bring Coke a Cola bottles in a big case. (this was years and years ago) But when he tried to leave with the empties, she's hold his sleeve and wouldn't let him go. She was gentle and friendly, nothing threatening at all. LOL. He'd have to call upstairs to my Grandma to call Hilda so he could get out the door. LOL.

Then there was one named Fritz who was given an ice cream cone when the family had one. He lay down with the cone between his paws and would lick it slowly, just like the family. He didn't just gobble it down like a normal dog would.

Then there was another Fritz, who smiled, showing all his teeth. He was walking down the sidewalk in this very small town one day and a policeman shot him. Isn't that awful? This was probably about 70 or 80 years ago and it wasn't that unusual to have a dog walking down some quiet street in some very small, quaint town.

I had a GSD named Rebel and one named Ajax. (pronounced: Aw-yax) They were both wonderful, sweet, trustworthy dogs....good looking, old fashion, big boned GSDs without the extreme slope and crippled up look of so many today. Rebel use to ride with us girls everywhere with our horses. He'd keep right up with us and we'd ride, sometimes for miles and miles. He was in super good shape. If some guys came up to talk to us teenager girls with our horses, he'd step inbetween my horse and a guy who wanted to pat the horse. He wouldn't let him get too close. He wasn't vicious, but he'd just give a look, a stare and block the way. LOL. Ajax wasn't that protective at all. He didn't appear to be any kind of watch dog.....until one time when something happened at the door late at night. He became a vicious, gnashing teeth, growling, barking, all muscles.....protector. (Same thing happened with my Lab, btw....funny for a Lab)

Anyhow, there are my stories about some GSDs. Do you have some stories? Is that GSD in your avatar? Would love to hear all about it.

My mothers cocker spaniel would smile.. it was such a cute thing. And I'm glad she did, first dog I'd known that smiled, so one day when another dog approached me, smiling, I didn't panic. LOL. I was on my knees, washing the rims on my car, when a golden retriever mix and another large mix walked up to me in the driveway. The golden mix was smiling ~ to a lot of people, it would seem like it was baring it's teeth. That dog was so sweet. They both followed me in the yard. I was unable to locate the owners, I had to have animal control pick them up, but I do believe they were later reclaimed by their owner.
