The Corgi down the lane is a 'tri color' Corgi. Not really tri color I guess, but she is brown, white and an orangish color. Her name is Abby. She is really freindly but MAN does she bark. I think every time she is out in her yard by herself she barks. Luckly we can't hear it too well because they aren't to close to us but if they were closer, that would get really annoying. |

Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Yes, I have a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and a Cardigan Welsh Corgi...I adore both, and will never be without one of each! The Pem (Duchess, red and white) is almost 3 years old and runs our house. We also have a male Samoyed (Avalanche) who is 20 months, and Ruby (tri-color Cardigan) is the baby, at 9 months old. My husband and I bought Duchess from a local breeder as a therapy dog when my husband ruptured his achilles tendon right after we married, and the Dr. said that a dog would be a great therapy aid. I have had dogs all my life up until then, so was so excited to get another one. Rus had 2 cats when we first got together, but I am extremely allergic to cats, so those had to go live with his best friend. It turns out the Duchess was the start of a beautiful friendship...we now have the 3 dogs (Avalanche and Ruby show), and Duchess goes along to the shows and does the "B" matches for fun (and has won a few Group placings), and we have the best time meeting folks from around the country. We both consider this our hobby, and look forward to show weekends. I'm sure our friends and family think we're crazy, but what else can you do that you can take your dogs with you everywhere, and meet up with folks that are as crazy about their dogs as we are?
Pems tend to be more outgoing than the Cardis, but since Ruby was raised by a Pem, she is lovingly referred to as "Hurricane Ruby". Not only are they cute and energetic, they are some of the most intelligent dogs I've ever been around. They are definitely "problem solvers"! They are big dogs in a little dog body! If you want a big dog, but don't have the room, a Corgi is definitely for you! Have fun!! |

Gotta love the Pembrokes! The following happened to us two weeks ago at a dog show in Vermillion, SD:
Between us, our partner from MN, and some good friends of ours from WI, we had 6 Cardigans running in a fenced livestock area with Duchess. (This was the entire CWC entry with the exception of 2 dogs at the show) All of the Cardis were running and rolling around on the ground, with Duchess patrolling the perimeter. When someone would get too rough with some of the others, Duchess would go plowing through the middle of the pack and you would see Cardis scattering/flying everywhere!!!! It was absolutely comical!! She even took a 50lb solid muscle Cardi male off his feet and rolled him! Duchess only weighs 25lbs, but she acts like she's 1000lbs of attitude. ![]() Don't get me wrong...Duchess is very aptly named. She thinks she's a princess and doesn't like to get dirty (I think the fact that Queen Elizabeth has Pems has gone to her head LOL). She always tries to stay above all of the rough and tumble, but when she gets on a roll, she really lays down the law! LOL |

Animal Lover

I love my Corgis.
I have a typical Welsh Corgi male about 16 months and his name is Walter. My fiancee, Clint, had Walter before we got together. Then when we decided to buy a house we wanted Walter to have a friend. So we got another Welsh Corgi. But this time we got a female and she is a tri-color corgi who is full of energy. she is 8 months old, on September 5th. She is a rescue corgi. The lady we got her from wasn't the nicest lady and I hope she doesn't breed any more animals until she learns how to take care of them. Cardigans have long tails. Pembrokes have nubs. Although some Pembrokes have tails it is unusual. And those are generally more expensive because they are more rare. I am told that the personalities of the 2 are EXTREMLY different. Which is a good thing. However my animals are very oposite and the only difference is one is male and one is famle. |
