i think i am gonna enter Brody into Herding Trails! I kno it is alot of work, but i still need to get his ILP (btw can you get that before they are fixed?) I have noticed him circling, i was very happy when i saw him do that! so i have been letting my sisters run around so he will "herd them", i tell him to circle and he wil run in a circle and bring them to me! I think this will be helpful because my family and I might move out of our old house to a 10 acre tract! so we would get sheep! lol! but i am rele excited! anyone out ther have any experience with Herding???

Hey ChiChi that is great. I have some experience with herding. I went to a seminar by a renowed person in the herding world. I received a Herding Instinct Seminar for there was testing for that. A GSD she did great and it was cool seeing the dog do the job it was bred to do. Of course the sheep too were what I call "broke" to dogs. She just turned each dog with the sheep and evaluated it in how it wached the sheep and di it chase them, etc. You can go to AKC.org and they can link you in to the herding clubs. You can get an AKC title called PT-Pre Trial--I'm not sure what the rules are, but you can check that out. I hope this has been of some help. Good luck--it's a lot of fun.

Also I wanted to add and forgot LOL that you should find a herding club and attend some of their functions and get to know some of the people. That way you can have an idea of the bigger picture and see if it is something you really want to pursue--talk to people and they can give you ideas from there.

no, your dog has to be neutered to be ILP'd - i provided you with the link in the last thread you asked about it that explains everything.
i would STRONGLY caution against encouraging herding people- it can lead to nipping. |

I also agree (i would STRONGLY caution against encouraging herding people- it can lead to nipping)
I would never use a person to train my aussie shepherds with.I seen what my dogs can do.Cody my blue merle aussie likes heading. They rest are healers. That is also a good way to teach your dog that it is ok to bit people then you will get in troble for that. |
