My father had a Collie when he was a kid. Her name was Sally and she looked a lot like "Lassie" ('cept that she really was female
). They're gorgeous dogs. ![]() Cass. |

Years ago when I was a kid, there used to be a rough collie up the street.I called her the "long nose dog"...
I don't remember her real name! But she was a beautiful dog.I also remember the owners were planning on moving and offered her to us,but of course at the time our parents said no! Anyway they are beautiful dogs, but not too common round here. |

Collies are fabulous...rough or smooth coat....They are on my list of "dogs to have in the future."
We have a Collie rescue here on the island, and I just know one day I'm gonna cave in! |

they're my next breed to get one day but im almost afraid of all that hair that's why i settled for a sheltie LOL . Maybe one day i'll have one sheltie and one collie, i'll always have 1 sheltie in the house hold, it'll be fun to have both a collie and a sheltie.....i think.....

Used to have Rough Collies many years ago but I think the more English type with the ears down and chunkier than the American type. I used to love them but a few years ago they started to go smaller and smaler and nearly turned into Sheltie's, their backends went terrible too. Fortunately in the last 4 years or so they do seem to be improving again.
If I had the space and for some reason stopped being in love with the breed I have now I think I would definitely go back to the RC. |

LOL Shelties did not come Rough Collies, they were never bred to get "smaller". Shelties actually came from boarder collies/ terrier type of dogs YEARS ago .They came from the Shetland island, have the intelligence of a boarder collie and the body size of a terrier dog. Although RC and shelties do resemble eachother and there are some "oversized" shelties but they are still two different breeds. When casey was a baby people mistaken him for a boarder collie. |

You need to re-read my post!! I said that the Rough Collies became so small in this country that they looked like Shelties and vice versa, Shelties were getting quite big and looking like RC's.
I know the breeds history just their sizes in the UK at one point were going the opposite way around ![]() |

Hehehe, since the thread was bumped up, I'll pop in and say that I now own a Collie mix! The only thing I can find wrong with her is she has a super high pitched bark and she's going to shed like the dickens when she gets older and looses her puppy coat. lol
