German Shepherd puppies ears
Hi, I am a proud new mommy of Keya, my 9 wk old GSD. I have some questions on her ears though, they have not come up yet. Should I be worried, should I do anything to help them?
Thanks!!! Wendy |

Hi, a GSD's ears don't normally stand until 4-6 month, my GSD's ears was all over the place, first one would stand while the other flopped and then vice versa.
If I may give you a tip, once they start standing don't play or fold them backwards, there is a slight chance of damaging the veins which is what causes them to stand straight. I wouldn't worry about it, give it time. |

That is what I thought, nature should take it's course with them.....hopefully my 1 yr old dog, Mya will leave them alone long enough for them to do their thing....Mya just loves bitting the puppies ears. I dont know who are more stressful, dogs or children....haa haa All I say..all day long is "Mya...enough with bitting Keyas ears!" Do they understand? No, but it somewhat makes me feel like I am trying anyway.
![]() Thanks for the tip, I will try and relax about the ears. ![]() |

My GSD's ears stood at around 4 months. Another thing you can do, is when they begin to look like they're trying to stand is make some weird noises, maybe rattle a little bit some pots and pans, anything to get him to work his ears a little bit...strengthens the base.

I have seen some of the greatest and cutest GSD puppy ears. Leaning on each other for support, one up one down, doing the 'bat' ears thing....They look so clumsy and cute!
Boomer did the one ear up and one completly down for the entire 4th mo. of his life. Then one morning he came out of his crate with both standing straight up, and they have been up since. Also remember that your pups ears could come up and then fall back down when teething starts. Keep lots of chew toys and things for your pup to tug on...they will come up when they are ready! ~Jaime |

I find it so interesting to watch my boy play with other dogs. He always tucks his ears flat to his skull to keep them out of the way of the other dogs mouth. Anyone elses shepherd do that? I think it is a pretty smart move on his part! LOL!
