Coonhounds

Anybody coonhunt out there? I would love to chat about hunting and starting your dogs. I think that one of mine would hunt, I'm not sure aboutthe other.

I don't but I used to have a coonhound mix and he was such a good dog! We didn't take him hunting but he was a great dog! Coonhounds are awesome! When I am older I want to rescue on from a shelter!

I have to say that while I love my girls, collies are my first love. The girls have been very difficult to train up to now. They are very food motivated as opposed to the collies I've trained have worked just as well w/ few treats and much praise and love.

My girls are Treeing Walker and Catahoula mix. In view of the nations trend to name the new mutt breeds, I've decided that they are going to be . . . (drumroll)

Houla Walkers. LOL. I really cracked my mom up w/ that one.

I'm glad that somebody besides me thinks it's funny. My hubby thought I was a little weird. I think that my name is much more catchy than some of those poo's out there. LOL.

Coonhounds are gorgeous dogs. I've yet to meet one though they're extremely rare in Australia so I've never even seen one in real life. I'd love to see pictures of your girls. What are their names?

Cass.

Jasmine and Dixie. Jasmine looks like a black and tan coonhound and Dixie looks like a treeing walker. Except they both have slightly shorter ears than most hounds. Jasmine is also more refined in her build. I'll try to get some pics this weekend.

Thanks. I love the name. Maybe for Hallowween, I'll dress them up as hula girls. LOL. Wouldn't that be a sight. I did dress them up for this last Hallowween. Jasmine went as Princess Jasmine and Dixie went as a hunting dog. I wish that I had gotten digital pics of that. LOL. I was going to enter a contest w/ them, but then had to work so I didn't get to enter. But I had worked so hard making the costumes, that I took them to my hubby's grandmother's house and to see my aunt and uncle. Jasmine even had a little crown headband and gold necklace. Dixie had on a camo hunting jacket w/ an orange hat for safety and had a toy rifle around her neck. It cracks me up thinking about it.

I have a Lab/ Redbone coonhound mix. They truly are wonderful dogs. We don't hunt with him yet but it is something we are interested in getting him into. he has great instinct.
