I need some help... don't know what else to do to help her
We have her now wearing a collar and she doesn't seem to mind it now. The leash is a different story she terrified of it. You put the leash on and her tail goes between her legs and she sits and shakes terribly. Any ideas as to how to work with her on this. And she was in the country before coming here to the town, when I take her out to due her business she's scared when a car, truck, semi and motorbike goes by. What can I do for this. I keep telling her in a calm, sweet voice " It's ok Mia they won't hurt you in the yard, " while I'm saying this I'm down on her level petting her softly.

Poor Mia has had her entire world turned upside down and is now just starting to experience things that a typical puppy would have much, much sooner.
What I would recommend is to get a light leash and just clip it onto her collar in the house and let her drag it around. You can try to lure her into a fun game to try to get her mind off of it. When you have her outside and she is scared the best you can do for her is to completely ignore it. You need to act very matter of factly as though you have no cares in the world and just continue on with your walk. Your confidence will slowly work its way down the leash to Mia and she will soon learn if you aren't concerned she doesn't need to be either. Another thing you can do again is try to get her involved in playing. She will eventually become desensitized to all those strange and scary things that are out in the big wide world that she's just learning about. Mia is lucky to have found such a wonderful family to help her blossom into a happy, confident furgal and forget about her earlier life. ![]() |

I have found putting the leash on the dog in the house or yard, and just watch them walk around with it on. my female basset did this, and she was so scared when the leash went on. She would whine, and even bark non-stop!! I have found this method to work in the sight of getting them used to the feeling on wearing the leash, once she got more comfortable, i would grab the leash and hold it for 3 mins and walk with her, and then let it go, let her do her thing and pick it up again for 5 mins. And so on..

Mia is doing fine now. She's starting to calm down when we go outside. She still a little scared but I'm able to get her to go almost around the block without her frecking out to bad. As for the leash I found that she prefers a nylon leash instead of the metal leash. So I only use the metal leash on her when my daughter wants to take her out cause for some reason she ( my daughter ) can't control her with the nylon. I think Mia understands this and will tolerate it as long as it's my daughter using it.

I agree with poodlesmom. I have a doxie pup and a 2 year old little girl and I try to make everything a game and it seems to work great for them. My doxie was okay walking with his leash but it is still a battle to try and take it off. He freaks out and starts biting as soon as you touch it. Good Luck!
