Newest boy: Wuzho the Staghound
I found him via petfinder...listed as a greyhound/deerhound mix b/c Staghound isn't a breed option on PF. He was rescued off a Staghound puppy farm as a pup and lived in a home for 5 years before the owner remarried and Wuzho decided he wanted to eat the new wife's kitties. Their loss, our gain!!!
He definitely has the temperament of a greyhound, but the movement of a deerhound. His coat is wiry and longer than a deerhounds would be, but not by too much. A wonderful addition! Now I'm always on the lookout for another staghound The pic from petfinder: ![]() His first RMB! I think he's excited!! ![]() He gets along *wonderfully* with all the greyhounds... ![]() And such a kissable face!! ![]() |

Congrats on the new furkid!
He's a very handsome boy. Wow you've really got a full house now. LOL I don't know how you keep up with them all. Must be a lot of fun. I love the group shot. I just want to run in there and play with them myself. Cass. |

Thanks so much for sharing photos of your staghound! I first heard of them about 12-15 years ago. There was an ad in Dog World for an American Staghound club. Being a life-long lover of sighthounds I of course mailed off a request for more information, but never received a reply
I'd sort of forgot about them until I began searching for an appropriate sighthound to be my future service dog. Turns out from talking to staghound owners on-line (another forum) they wouldn't be right for me since I have active in-door kitties though. There is sure not much information about staghounds on-line.... I couldn't find anything about that club from years ago & of course I don't have that old magazine anymore. From what was said on the other forum, there aren't staghound breeders per se.... Seems most pet staghounds are rescued from ranchers/owners who no longer need their coursing services or were dogs who didn't do their job well enough. They say it's sort of like rescuing greyhounds but on a smaller scale. Does that info sound accurate to you? ~*~*And he says 'Rhiannon don't go.... Rhiannon stay'.... And he still cries out for her.... 'Don't leave me.... don't leave me now'....*~*~ |

From talking to other staghound owners (that have them as pets), they say they are always tempted to adopt every staghound they come across b/c they are so difficult to find and they never want to be without one. I know what they mean...I always want a staghound now. A wonderful breed.... They've been around for a few hundred years..the offspring of staghound-staghound breeding. You can't just cross a deerhound and a greyhound to get a staghound. Though they aren't recognized by any kennel club....so by many people's standards, they would just be mutts...or lurchers/longdogs. Our staghound was returned from his first home for supposedly wanting to eat the resident kitties of the new wife....but he hasn't given our kennel kitties a second look when he's been around them...so who knows. |

Wuzho is really gorgeous!
He has such a sweet-looking face. How many dogs do you have now? Is that six, or are some missing from the group shot? |
