Hi all. I'm still hopefully going to get Bridgette, the female dachshund from N. Carolina. I live in PA - from what I understand, it'll cost about $250. to fly her here. I'm not able to drive to N. Carolina for personal reasons. In this case would the breeder provide the crate for shipping her - I imagine it's included in the shipping cost, or I'm not sure how this works? Have any of you had to have your pet shipped to you from another part of the country?
* Another question - a 2 year old dog is about how old, compared to humans? Is it comparable to a child, young adult, adult? Wasn't sure about that. Thanks, Greg |

She would have to provide the crate to ship her, or else the dog wouldn't be able to go on the plane
I would think the shipping cost is included. If you really want to be sure, you can always ask the breeder, and double check. IMO, the years really depend on the breed and individual dog. I have two 3 year old huskies that still acts like a puppy (silly antics), while my 11 month old GSD mix isn't as "puppy-ish". 2-3 years is generally when dogs start to mature and enter "adult hood". I'd probably compare it to an adult, but as I said, it really all depends on breed and individuality ![]() I'm excited for you! Can't wait to see some pictures! |

Take Responsibility
|
Different breeders probably have different ways of handling this, However for me when i was breeding it would have been the buyers responsibility to pay for the flight as well as the crate and the health cert.

You can buy a crate and have it delivered to the breeder that is how I did it when I got my aussie.

The breeder shipped my pup in her crate and I returned it. You have to "book" a flight with air cargo, through whatever airlines, ask what times the breeder is best for her the airport and look up aiport codes to book. $250 sounds a bit steep. I paid $150 from California to Colorado. Plus $20 to return the crate.

I bought my first dog, a dachshund puppy from a pet shop in SD and I'm not sure how much my parents paid to fly him to TX but maybe the costs depends on the airline or something. But i do know that a crate was provided for our dog. I'm sure the breeder will pay for it.
