another dachshund question..
Hi everyone, i had another question about dachshunds, before i bring one home. For all you doxie owners, what is the best (or correct) way to pick up a dachshund? I recently tried picking up my neighbor's dachshund Rusty. I thought i picked him up gently enough but his leg started twitching, kind of rapidly - i don't know if maybe it was a nervous reaction? It kind of freaked me out a little, and i quickly set him down on a chair.
I need to learn the right way, because I live in an apartment and will have to carry my dog up and down the stairs. Thanks for any advice. Greg |

My/ my grandmothers dachshund hogan likes his feet to be supported. But basically when I pick him up I put one hand under his back end and one hand in front. He is so long it feels like I will snap him in half if I hold him the wrong way.

Scoop them up and make sure you support both their front feet/chest and their hind feet when you pick them up. You can hold him like that, or I'll also cradle one in the crook of my arm so its hind feet are resting at the bend of my arm and I'm holding its chest.
Just don't dangle him and I think you'll be okay. |
