Basset Hounds

I have always loved Bassets and was wondering how big they can get. How much do they weigh when they are full grown? Can you still pick them up?

OOO me too.....I have two bassets..!!!

I can way my full grown male and my 7 month female but i will have to wait untill my mom gets home so she can help.

I can still pick them up but not like a puppy at all, so it depends on how strong you are i guess.

Basset Hounds are heavy set dogs. They weigh anywhere from 45-75lbs, but some are smaller.

In no way are Bassests "carry in your purse all day" kind of dogs. I won't say they aren't Lap dogs, because I'm sure they think they are. And any dog can be a lap dog! My 80lb Lab mix thinks he is a lap dog and sits on my lap quite well.
But I'm sure you could still pick them up if need be, but I wouldn't want to be carrying them around for a long time. That would deffinitally hurt my arms. lol

yeah that is true. but you can pick them up to move them or put them in their kennel.

You also have to be careful how you pick them up due to their length.

*To get Baxter on the grooming table I had to have help (he's 60lbs) or lift one end at a time. Luckily I just use a bench so it's not far from the ground. Now he's trained to get up on his own using one of those children's booster steps.

Basset hounds can get really big, you have to watch how much they eat. I do agree they are heavy set dogs. I love basset hounds, too.
