Beagle Puppy - raise 1 or 2??

We are getting a beagle! The breader had more pups than people on the wait list and has given us the option of having 2.

Any comments on raising 2 beaglepups together.

Thx

I personally wouldn't do it. It's difficult enough raising one puppy let alone 2. Plus they often get bonded very close to one another and not with you. I waited till my oldest dog was over a year old before getting another dog and I thought it was a bit better.

Welcome to GP, btw!

EDIT: Just noticed you asked about beagle pups, sorry. Though I think it holds true to all breeds.

Twice the cuteness! I personally wouldn't want to try and train two puppies at the same time, I've always staggered the aquisition of my pets. I think I do this for my benefit as well as theirs - I get little babies more often! But, I've heard quite a few beagle owners say they get a second after the first - for company, play times, and because they are a "pack" animal. I don't know much about that, but I do know beagles were bred to pack-hunt. Don't know if I've helped! Keep us updated on what you decide!

thanks for your input. I have heard that is is more training time. my responce to that I will train one and my husband will train one. As my husband & I both work durring the day we thought it might be nice if they had a friend. I hope for a few more oppinions as we will be making our decision tonight. Once we decide I will post pic of the dog(s)

Aww, she's adorable! Congratulations! I think you've made the best decision with choosing one puppy though I know how tempting it must of been not bring a second little bundle home.

Makes you wonder about the breeder in question though, doesn't it? I don't believe any reputable breeder would offer someone two pups from the same litter.

That is one CUTE little pup!!!!! Love her markings! Keep the pics of her coming..she is adorable!

Congrats on the new addition....and BTW...I think you made a wise choice just getting one. They are fun...but it would be double trouble when teething and chewing and training...I would wait until little Yoshi starts to mature and then try the puppy stage again if you all still wanted a second. And someone once mentioned a good point about spreading apart your pets ages...as they get older..you wont be loosing them both at once to old age, or sickness related to getting older.

Good luck with the pup! shes a cutie pie!

Why wouldn't the breeder want to offer two pups from the same litter? I'm trying to learn a little more about buying from a breeder - in case of future additions to the family!
Cute pics of your cockiteals, I used to have one - she was a sweetheart. I had to adopt her out because my cat was trying to eat her and I was afraid the bird would get me and my roomate kicked out of the apartment because she was so loud. She's with a WONDERFUL woman now - I still get pictures and emails occasionally.

Most reputable breeders will not sell more then one puppy to the same house hold at the same time, most would rather you came back after that puppy was atleast 6 months to a year old to allow some bonding and training time. Puppies tend to bond with eachother more so then their human family. Unless you are an experienced owner then I would never recomend 2 puppies at once, even the most experienced owner can find it a huge challenge. Sometimes even tho they are litter mates you can end up having to rehome one if got at the same time because they don't get along. Me personally I would much rather wait till I have the training in with my first before getting a second, sure their cute but they still cost alot to look after and 2 just means double the amount... lol I have 2 that are very close in age and even tho Iam not a novice owner I still found them a challenge, mind you house training was easy, but they bonded more so with each other...

Does your puppy have all the tests recomended for this breed?

Is your lil one ever a cutie, enjoy having her and training her before you decide on a second... Adorable

i would sugest to never raise more than one puppy at once.... it isnt just twice the work it is about four times as much because you have plus each gie the other crap and picking on them and stuff...

and it doesnt go back to reputible breeders giving someone the option of two puppies doesnt make someone reputible... but no yo u shouldnt..

What an adorable wee one! As a breeder I would never allow two pups to go into the same home together. A puppy needs tons of one on one, training and everything else that goes along with raising that pup into a friendly / well behaved member of our society.

Attempting to raise both would be too much for the "typical" family and neither dog would get the proper amount of training or attention that it needs and deserves. jmo
