Bedding for drooling hounds
What kind of bedding do you use?
Baxter's bed is filled with cedar chips and starts to smell like wet wood after two nights. After two nights, I switch his beds & air it out. It's either from drooling in his sleep, which he does along with snoring, or he's licking his paws. |

I second the fleece bedding idea. Very easy to care for.

One bed I made for him from an old sleeping bed (flannel) and the other is a recent purchase from the pet supply store. I bought it since the cedar chips supposedly reduce odors. Both beds end up stinking, but it's not a urine smell. FYI:He cannot sleep on our bed since he kicks, drools, and snores ![]() |

I think you best bet would be to buy or make a cover that has a waterproof lining on the inside and fabric on the outside. This will prevent the insides from getting wet and smelly. I made one at some point by stiching a piece of vinyl and a quilt together and then folding it over and stiching up the sides. I then stuffed a pillow inside. It worked great, was cheap and the pillow never got gross. I suppose the same thing would work it you were going to stuff it with cedar chips but you would probably need to put in a zipper.
