Hi Everyone . So happy to be here. I am actually "pre-new" . I am a Meowmy of 2 beautiful kitties, Joey and Gina
. I live at home with my family. Our dog, Buster, died last year in December. My father was exceptionally close with Buster for 14 years. We were all devasted when we lost him, but my dad was just so hurt. Now that some time has passed, he has decided that he would love a new dog. We are all extremely excited about it. He has chosen to adopt from a shelter. Being that I still live home, needless to say, I am thrilled. I do plan to get a dog when I move out, but I am so happy I will be here for this new one. He has been visiting many shelters, but is not adopting until his busy season ends at work. My mom and I both work, and in 2 weeks my dad will be off for a while and be able to be home for the new puppy. Anywaaaaay (sorry, I am going on and on with my family history here ..) I just wanted to say Hi and introduce myself. For now I am just enjoying reading the posts here. I am sure you will be seeing much more of me (with many, many questions to ask )Thanks everyone and Happy Holidays... -Lauren |

Oh wow.. you are all so welcoming
. As far as waiting, yes.. we would never be impulsive with something like this. As much as I would LOVE to have the dog here NOW, it's just not happening. Work is waaaay to busy during this season. I am a pet groomer, so I am sure you all know how crazy things get at the salon before Christmas .Anyway, I do have some questions already . Can any of you tell me how to go about finding the right, high quality food for a specific breed? We do not know what breed, or mixed breed we will adopt, but I am trying to research where to order the correct food. For example, I know that certain foods are better for a Bulldog, while other food is better for a Lab or Shepard. When we do get our dog, where would I find information about that? Thanks everyone.. |

Greetings and Welcome to GP. So glad to have you here.
You asked about dog food, poke around in here http://www.globalpaw.com/thread6858.html you might find some good info. I know I did when I first came here and now I feed all my pets better. Hope that helps and hope you enjoy GP... |

Thanks, but quite upset
Hey Everyone. Thank you all for your warm welcomes.
Unfortuantely, I have some quite upsetting news. It turns out that my dad may not be able to have the time off that we had expected. Of course this means, we will not be adopting at this time . We all are very disappointed, but at the same time are very aware that we cannot have a new dog here while we are at work all day. Just not fair to the little guy/girl.Hopefully, one of us may have some time in the near future, but for now, it just cannot be. Very sad I will still be coming around to read here on the forums. I always enjoy what all of you have to say. I am an animal lover, so as long as I keep reading about all these babies who have good homes, it can still put a smile on my face.. |

Dad is off from work from Monday December 12 (?) until February
. The dates were mixed up, and we cannot be more thrilled. We figured that if he couldn't have this month off, we would have waited until April, but turns out it all worked out for a great Holiday. It's not to say that we will find the dog that is right for us at this time. That could take quite a while, but it's wonderful to know that our visit to the shelter will be this coming week. At first our plan was to adopt a puppy. I felt that it would be better for training issues. Plus, with an older dog, you never know what type of past it had. I have cats, so I do take their safety into consideration. However, after thinking it over, we decided we will not limit ourselves to puppies. Although the training may be more difficult, that's fine. I am reading more and more about dogs not being adopted because they're too old. I don't like that Don't get me wrong, I fully understand why people choose to adopt baby pups. The truth is, any and all pups are great, and the idea of bringing one home from a shelter just really touches our heart. I had made an order for doggy supplies, which was delivered the other day. That was when I thought we weren't getting the pup. Something told me not to return the stuff. I just know we are meant to have a dog here. The other great thing is, after my dad goes back to work for his busy season (he's a window dresser..so it slows down during Christmas),my slow season begins. Then, I can be home with the dog. It all worked out wonderfully! ![]() |
