Question HI! New Pup Keeps Growing!!!!

Hello !! I just bought my new pup from breeders a Cockapoo, he was a tiny thing at 3 months only 3 pounds now that he is 5 months he is 11 pounds and he just keeps on growing, the breeders told me he wouldnt get very big but it looks like he is going to be huge , iknow this may seem like a silly question but when do dogs stop growing???

Hi and welcome to GP! Small breeds mature quite faster than the larger ones. He will probably slow down by 9 months, It's hard to say with mixed breeds cuz I have seen some pretty big purebred cockers. I hope the "breeder" you got him from was a good one and not a BYB who is doing it for money and nothing else. There are plenty of poo and oodle mixes in the shelters because these days they seem to be crossing everything with them, go through some of our older threads and read some they are quite interesting. Good luck! and I hope you enjoy GP!

Welcome to GP!!

Small breeds tend to mature faster, as shandoggy has already said. Your pup will most likley start to slow down between 8 and 9 months of age.

Welcome to GlobalPaw! I have two mini dachshunds and they stopped growing at different ages. I think it depends on the dog. Bailey was a tiny pup, only two pounds at 3 months of age. She topped out at 10 pounds. Lucy was 4 pounds at 3 months of age and she is now only 6 pounds. She has a more petite body structure and is a lot smaller, shorter, skinnier than Bailey. We have a hard time keeping weight on her. It really depends on the dog though. We hoped Lucy would be as big as Bailey but oh well.

Welcome to the site.

As everyone's said, it's difficult to tell because it depends on the individual dog. With mix breeds it's almost impossible to tell what size they'll be. Your pup could end up the same size as a cocker spaniel (I think they can get to be around 30lbs).

Cass.
