Take Responsibility

Hi & welcome to GP.
You will not find any free dogs on GP as we do not allow dogs for sale or for free to be posted here. You might try petfinder or your local shelter. Depending on where you are located some shelters have very reasonable fees. |

Our shelter dogs were only $100 each and that included all their shots being up to date and they were both spayed/neutered for us. If you take a free dog you might need to get all their shots done and that can add up to a lot of money.

Not being awful but if you can't afford a small amount from a rescue centre etc, are you sure that you are able to afford a dog at all? Don't forget there's just the fees for the usual veterinary things without even putting into the equation any illnesses or accidents that may happen.
Also I think that you would be better going to a rescue because when you think about it who would give away a healthy puppy that's been looked after and whose parents have had all the health tests carried out that are necessary for the breed. Good luck in your search and I hope someone can help you. |

I have to second what was said. Also remember you have to buy dog food, a dog bed, possibly a crate/cage to keep the dog confined while you're not home, leashes, etc. There's a lot more to owning a dog than just having it hang around your house. I would suggest trying www.petfinder.com There are hundreds of dogs needing good homes and are at a reasonable adoption fee. You can even check out the classified ads on their page and see if you can find a dog in your area. |

New to this site - boy most of you are MEAN!!!
Geez.......give a guy a break!!! Have you ever thought this person could be new to this site and could use a helping hand in stead of someone or several people smacking him around!!!! Goodness....how do you expect to teach our children to love and take care of animals if you don't start somewhere. So what if you can't pay TOP dollar for a pet. GOD didn't put a Dollar sign on animals, people like you all have. Every creature on this beautiful earth has earned the right to be loved and who are you to judge someone just because they ask if someone has a free dog......well all I have to say to all of you who commented before me is
SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

It was merely pointed out that this forum is not a place to come for a "free" dog as our guidelines state. Just as we do not advertise free dogs , we also do not tolerate our members being berated for trying to help out. I stongly suggest you step back, calm down and reread the posts, you will find that your reaction was clearly over the top. |

And you have to remember... owning a dog is a big responsibility. That's why I listed all of the things that I did, because number one would be vet care. You can never really tell what may come up, and when you don't have the money for it it's really hard. I had the same problem happen to me with a boxer/GSD rescue that I had. It started out as a simple problem, and arose into kidney failure and I had to put him to sleep. Could we have saved him? Possibly --- if we had the money to let him stay at a specialists hospital for about $2000 a night (she wanted him there for 9 days), sure. We would have had to pay for whatever testing she performed once she did it -- and it had to be upfront. But we didn't have that kind of money, and unfortunately we weren't planning for things to be that way. Not everyone here has "top dollar dogs". All of mine have been rescues. Global paw is a family friendly forum. We do not try to chase away anyone who comes here. If our questioning seems a bit "in your face" then we apologize, but it's only because we are trying to educate those who may be looking for it. |

I didnt see anywhere that anyone said you have to pay TOP PRICE but a responsible person does count the cost of owning a pet and unfortunately that means money to care for the unexpected. Emotion and love alone just isnt enough when truly caring for a dog or for any life at all. Seems to me you havnt read the posts in there true meaning. |

Shame on you!

As all of us said about them going to a rescue centre, I can't see where the dollar sign came into it! I would much rather someone paid a small amount than nothing at all. No-one said to go to a top breeder who charges a fair amount due to all the health tests that many carry out! |

I do not believe this member has logged on since his original post back on June 5th. He must have either found a dog or changed his mind. Hopefully he found a good dog for his family, or maybe he decided the timing was not good and decided to wait, either way, I don't think he has been back on GP since then.
