Hello fellow dogowners!
I just got a new dachshund! Her name is Oda:
![]() 2 days ago. I think I am doing a OK job but I can always improve so I am here for advice (and sharing advice when I get better) I live In Norway, which is in Western Europe. I plan on using my dog as a hunting dog for moose and deer when she gets a bit older. I have heard it is very stimulating for the dogs! Yup, so trying to cope with all the new stuff I have think about A bit tedious at times but is ok! |

Is Oda a wire haired standard dachshund? She is so cute! I have 3 mini smooth hair dachshunds. Two black and tans and a dapple. Dachshunds are great dogs. They are smart and fearless! Let me know if you have any breed specific questions. I have been reading about dachshunds for over 3 years.

Yeah it is a wire-haired dachshund. I think my dog is really stubborn but I guess that has something to do with the breed, so I have just said to myself: Ok, she is stubborn but I am going to be even more stubborn. I am trying to get her to walk in a leash but it is a bit difficult... she eats on the leash and just lie down looking at me with a stupid look but then I am going to be stubborn!
![]() Btw, have you hunted with dachshund before? I have heard they are born for it, but mostly badgers but I want to try moose and deer. you think it would work ok? |

Hi and WELCOME
!I have never heard of a dauchsund hunting something 10 times bigger than they are I think you would be putting her at risk especially with moose. Moose are huge creatures and one swift kick or stomp from one Oda would be all done I know there original purpose was to hunt badger or rats. What ever you choose good luck and stay safe especially Oda ![]() |

I am not sure about hunting deer and moose. It sounds very dangerous for a small dog. You would need TONS fo training to be sure she is perfectly under your voice command so you can call her off when you need her to. Perhaps after a few years of training you could try. I don't know how people hunt deer or moose with dogs. I thought you had to be very quiet and stalk them. Dachshunds are very good trackers but they are definetly NOT quiet! LOL!!!!
