Yet Another Newbie

Hi all. My name is Kathy. I have a doberman mix that we got from someone on Freecycle. She was completely clueless, as she told us that he was a rottweiler/jack russell mix, and that the dog was a 5 month old spayed female. When we picked the dog up, I immediately saw that HE was most definitely not a she. We took him (Jake) to the vet, and he thinks the puppy is about 9 weeks old. He's pretty healthy, and we got his first round of shots. He's definitely part doberman, but I don't know what else he's mixed with - he's got one white paw.

We're working on housebreaking him right now, and he does pretty well when supervised, but he's not ready for freedom in the house, yet.

I also have two permanent cats, one cat we're watching for my mom, 3 children, and a husband.

As soon as I get my camera working, I'll post a picture. I'd love some help with trying to figure out what sort of mix Jake is.

I love animals and all, but I really had no idea that I'd love this puppy just like one of my own children.

Welcome aboard, Navygrrl! I was wondering if your name is significant of past or current service. I served a five year stretch in the U.S. Navy myself....

I'd LOVE to see pics of your pup. My Harley is a Beagle X ... we're just not sure with what. Popular theory has her as a Beagle X Dobie. So it would be fun to compare....

She has four white paws, and a blaze of white on her throat and chest.

Actually, SunGurl, I spent four years active duty, and then five years in the Reserves. My unit got activated right after 9/11, and we spent 7 months in the Middle East. I'm completely out now and using my GI Bill up much too quickly.

I'm hoping to get some pics this weekend. Apparently only my husband knows how to coax the camera. Jake's coloring looks similar to your Harley - with the white on the chest. Jake also has some brindle coloring on his legs.

Froggie - I agree, she was clueless. She had supposely gotten him from a rescue and that was the information she was told, but, I can't believe she missed *THAT*, you know?

This board seems really great so far, and I'm learning a lot. I'm glad it's here.

Hi Kathy, welcome to Global Paw!
I'm looking forward to seeing photos of Jake. He sounds like he has really interesting colouring.
