Hi, all-I am feeling very very sad because my oldest dog Louie just died last Saturday. He died in my arms. It tears my heart out because at 12 he was totally with it, totally the same puppy mind, beautiful sleek body, but he suddenly lost all use of his back legs. He had been dragging one leg for months but using his other and muscular top half to get around. He was in great pain and I was giving him pain medication, but Friday night he suddenly got much worse. Friday night he stayed on the couch all night with my mother stroking him. Saturday morning he dragged himself into the hallway and when he couldn't see someone, he screamed. I sat and petted him and gave him some treats. He was very hungry still. We called the vet's which is only open until noon on Sat. and asked advice. He was 65 or more pounds so my mother and I couldn't carry him to the vet's and his favorite vet happened to be on duty that day. She had once christened him "King Louie". She drove out with a tech and we carried him from the hallway onto a soft blanket and petted him. His head on my lap, she gave him a tranquilizer and we petted him some more and then she gave him the overdose and he just slowly put his head down and was gone. I have never before had to do that to one of my dogs before they were really out of it (not eating and etc). Besides the pain and no legs he was his old self. I have been so torn up about it. He was such an athletic dog who had been abused as a really tiny puppy (he fell off a roof of a triple decker) and was taken to a shelter from which I adopted him. He also had been hit. Because of the fall, when I adopted him at four or five months, he had to have special food for over a year because his intestines along with his legs had been hurt. I think with the arthitis of old age the old injuries came back. But I wish they made wheel chairs for dogs because I miss him so. He was like no other: strong, funny, protective, leading . I have four other dogs who all loved him. too. They are all feeling strange about his disappearance. |

Hi there ~ I am so sorry for your loss. It is such an incredibly hard thing to lose one of our beloved pets. It's so hard to put one to sleep, but it's also the last unselfish thing a pet owner can do. But think of all the good memories you have. It's so hard, only thing that helps is time. Though nearly three years after my first pug's death, I still cry over her ashes and pictures. I miss her.
Welcome aboard.. I hope you enjoy it here. |

I am so terribly sorry to hear of your loss. That sounds so hard what you went through in those last hours. All the typical things to say.....he had a good life with you, he lived a pretty good life span, he was happy up until the end.....all that stuff doesn't help much does it. I mean it helps a little to know we gave our dogs a nice life, (just think how lucky he was to have you after such a rough start) but when you're so missing them it is still painful. I know how painful and sad it is. I've done it before, like most of us have and am about to go through it again with my Lab. Only time will take the edge off. My thoughts are with you. You've come to a good place. You are welcome here.

I am so sorry for your loss! I had to deal with a similar thing myself. Her story will be in the Pet Memorial section here soon, I feel like writing about her since she's in my thoughts right now. I still cry when I think about her... and that was probably THE most painful times of my life.
I wish you luck, and hope to hear from you again soon! You'll enjoy it hear, there are a lot of great people to talk to.. even if you need to vent and let your emotions out, there is always someone here to listen. Welcome... <3 |

Welcome to GlobalPaw, nice to have you here.
So sorry to hear about your poor Louie leaving you. It is hard losing a special friend and the sad thing is that you could never replace them when the leave. Why not do as Lil'Paws said and leave something special for Louie in the Pet Cemetery List. |
