Hello all!
Hey everyone! I live in Columbia, South Carolina, and I love all dogs. I'm actually here to get some advice. I had a lab - the best fella in the world - who died of pancreatic cancer last year. He was 11. I still cry almost every day, but my husband and I have decided that it's time for another one. We'd like to get one from the same line, if possible, but I'm having a hard time figuring out the best way to track bloodlines (AKC can't help because of privacy issues). Can any of you help me? Does anyone know of a web site that may be good for finding this information? Thanks all, and it's nice to be here.

I am sorry to hear about your dog passing. I know how hard it is and your new puppy will help with the healing. When you say you want the same lines does that mean you want the same parents or grand parents as your beloved lab?

Yes, I'd like to have the same grandparents, if possible. Or at least one set. I've found puppies whose grandfather is my dog's father, so that's a possiblilty, but I'd really like to find the grandson of one of his litter mates.
Sorry it took so long to respond - I was out of town, and then lightning fried my modem, even though the computer was unplugged (!) Fried my TV and phone, to but they were plugged in to the surge protector. Thanks for your help. Tracy |

Welcome. I'm very sorry for your loss. I know, as most of us here do, that it is a very hard thing to go through.
With the lines that your dog came from, were you aware of a higher prevalence of that kind of cancer? I know cancer is a big one in most all dogs, but did you find out from the breeder what the dogs in the background died of and at what age? Were there other health tests done? Maybe another line wouldn't be a bad idea if you were able to do that kind of research. You could maybe go to some dog shows and ask around. Maybe someone there would know something. And I would think that AKC would have some records based on your pedigree for you if you do in fact positively want these lines. Good luck. Something sure does make us dog lovers go back for more even though we know we'll have to go through that loss again and again. They're just so wonderful. I have a Chocolate Lab too, along with 3 other dogs. They're fabulous dogs. Carrie |
