Wink Newbie

Hi my name is Crystal. I am 22, I have a birthday coming up in Feb. I am from North Carolina. I love doing crafts, when I am not tending to my dogs.

I currently have 3 adult dogs, a 9 month old, and 5 puppies... there would be 6 puppies but we lost one...

The puppies will be 5 week old on friday.

The breeds of the dogs are as follows:

1 male boxer- 3 years old
1 female syberian husky mix-3 years old
1 female syberian husky/boxer mix 1 year 6 months old
1 male toy rat terrier mixed with minatute doberman
5 puppies- 2 male 3 female- syberian husky/boxer mix 5 weeks old.

I absolutely love my animals. They are my life... although we do not have the money to take them to the vet everytime something is wrong we do make sure they have the best care possible.

I got my toy rat terrier mix as a late birthday present last year and he has totally out grown his mom and dad...go figure he was the runt in the liter. We just got him potty trained to go out side...

Well thats about it for now....

If you would like to know anything more please feel free to ask...

Crystal

Hello and welcome! Would love to see pictures of everyone.

Can I ask why you allowed your dogs to breed and make mixed breed dogs? Are you getting the female spayed?

I know there are "NO ACCIDENTS" but as God's honest truth. My female got out of her locked kennel in the middle of the night during the time of her "heat". We thought we had gotten to her before the male did and didn't think anything of it at that time. Then about 2-3 weeks before she had her puppies we noticed a change in her diet and decided to bring her in. Sure enough she gave birth to 6 beautiful puppies, one of which was a runt. When the runt was about 2 1/2 weeks old we noticed something was wrong with her and she fought for the next week and a half and passed away.

For those who are thinking we "bad" owners for allowing this pregnancy to happen (which I hope you don't think this) all of my dogs get the best care, love and attention.

I hope that this is not the start of ya'll bashing me or my dogs, I just came from another forum site that did just that. They took my situation and turned it upside down like I am one of those owners like what you would see on the animal planet's Animal Cops. We are nothing like that.

I am here to get help and advise on my puppies and to share pictures and my experiences with my dogs...

And yes I do plan on posting pictures as soon as I figure it all out.

I was not bashing, but curious as to why your dog got pregnant. (I am very much for rescue, and spaying and neutering, and tend to question a lot when thats not done!).. But I was definitely not bashing you!

Welcome Crystal. I hope you get your animals spayed and neutered. This would keep it from happening again. There are just too many puppies and dogs without homes already in the shelters. No bash...just a suggestion. I bet they are cuties though....would love to see some photos. Do you have friends and neighbors interested in any of them? I'm sorry you lost one. That has to be pretty sad. How's Mom doing? Is she a good Mom? If you need help posting pictures, let us know.

I'm not bashing you either...just wondering how you ended up with puppies? Did you have devine intervention at your house? LOL. Or did you aquire a dog who was already preggo? And are you finding homes for some of these rescue dogs? It looks like you're over run with more animals than anyone could manage. It's good that you are working with a rescue though. Couldn't someone else lend you a hand and take some of these animals to foster? (sorry, off topic)

Even purebred dogs should not be bred unless certain, very strict criteria are met. Mixed breed, pure bred (except for the cream of the crop, top breeders)....it is all the same....astronomical over-population of dogs in proportion to homes.

Spay and neuter your pet dogs. OK...off soap box.

Welcome Crystal!

yes...she is an awsome mom...she is trying to ween them...well about a week or so ago... she is spending more time away from them though....i am helping her by getting them use to what i like to call mush.

i dont not have the resources to have the females fixed at this time but i DO plan on calling the humane society to see what they can do to help get them fixed... i have 2 adult females that would need to be fixed.....

as far as the abundance....we started out with 2 about 3 years ago.... one of those passed on...and the other one we currently have is the mom... then the male boxer was brought in by my moms boyfriend...then he gave the boxer to my sister.... the other adult female came out of our first liter which is now my brothers....the terrier is mine i got him as a birthday gift from my older brothers girl friends liter.... and now the new puppies....

1 we are keeping and 1 my brother is taking and we have a home for another one.... and a few more who are interested....

Kritter, I wasn't referring to you as having an abundance. That was in reference to the quote.

I would defniitely check with the humane society about neutering or spaying. They tend to charge a lot less than a vet clinic. And they do it all the time so are experienced and good. I took my little dog, Jose' and it was only, I think....$17.00. Of course, he is a very small dog. But still...... Neutering is cheaper. You could start there.

Seriously, if it is more than you can afford, what if something more serious healthwise comes up? Perhaps keeping a puppy would be more of a hardship and one more that needs to be neutered or spayed. (?) I think it's very expensive to keep a dog as it is, not to mention when unexpected things come up...illness, injury and they do come up, especially as a dog ages. They can get very expensive in old age.

At any rate, whatever you decide, I hope all goes well for you and your dogs.

Welcome! It sounds to me that you were trying your best to keep them separated during heat cycles, which in my opinion is a ton of work. Glad to hear you're going to contact the humane society to assist with getting them spayed/neutered. I'm sure they would offer assistance with finding them good homes also. Talk to them about it and see if you could take care of the pups while they look for homes.

Post some pics of the pups soon, we love puppies!
