Newbie!

Hello, my name is Jackie and I'm new to the board. I'm 20 years old (but quite knowledgable despite the age) and from New York. I own one dog, a 10 year old Siberian Husky named Taz. He's the best dog I could ever asked for! I rescued him from neglectful, possibly abusive owners in Sept. '05 when he was 9 years old. If I hadn't taken him, his owners were scheduled to put him down, a perfectly healthy, excellent tempered and good natured dog. He was a little nervous and quite lazy when I took him in, but I have since opened him up a lot, and now he is a crazy senior dog, who can run for hours at the park, I got him to lose 11 pounds (he was very big from a diet of hot dogs at his old home) with excercise and a much healthier diet and he is just the best dog! I love him so much. I can't wait to get to know all of you. I absolutely love talking about dogs in general, my dog, and helping others. Here are some pics of my Taz!

Your dog is absolutely beautiful.

A couple people here also have huskies.

Hi. Welcome to our little community. Your boy is just as handsome as can be. He sure looks fantastic for a senior. His eyes are still so sharp and clear. Bless you for giving this boy love attention and happiness before he leaves for rainbow bridge. I can tell in his eyes how happy he is.

Thanks for the welcome! That's great to know, I signed up to a couple other forums and didn't see any other Husky owners.

Thanks Calgal! Everyone says he doesn't look a day over 5, and he's very healthy and energetic for his age, he can still run at the park for hours and rough house with the other dogs. He's definetly got quite a few years left in him!

Poor Taz

Was he timid when first got him?

He wasn't very timid, but he was quite nervous and kind of depressed, would never leave my side. I took him to the dog park during the first and second week of having him, and he was attached to me at the hip. I even had other Husky owners approach me and ask how I get him to follow me around like that. Now he's opened up more and is very happy and runs around and plays.

Wow Taz is gorgeous - is his head really that big or does it just look that way from the photo? Anyway I love him!! And good on you for giving him a new home - he looks VERY happy!

Welcome, from one husky owner to another. I am owned by three, as well as a GSD mix who's a husky in disguise

Your boy looks stunning for being 10 years old! I would have never guessed he was wany older than 2

All of mine are still pretty young yet, but I love them! The breed is absolutely amazing -- I'll always have a husky in my life.

Can't wait to hear more stories about Taz!

Rivsky - It might be the way the photo is, but he does have a semi big head (LOL), but it goes in proportion with his body. It's all that fluff, he has such a big mane!

Icey - I'm glad to know I am among other Husky owners here!

Taz is gorgeous!

One of my dogs is nearly 11 years old (his birthday is in a few weeks time - he's the dog pictured in my avatar), and mine is a few days after his!

I'll be 20.
