Greetings from France. I am an English woman living in France with French chef huband and small daughter. We have just adopted a 12 week old black lab puppy from a nearby farm (she was under threat of destruction
cos the litter was too large) and have called her Yoda (she seems like the wise one and has a gorgeous wrinkled brow). We have had a GSD rescue (bitch) and a Bearded Collie - beadie died aged 13 (hit by a car, too old to get away, very sad) and the GSD had a similarly distressful ending. We have waited 6 months before taking another dog and thought long and hard about it (we own a busy restaurant and live in an apartment above it, and do not have lots and lots of timle to devote to the diggy, but we are in a lovely village full of great walks with loads of doggy people so decided to get a puppy and just have longer days (early morning and late night walking) and lots of fun. I will probably be seeing all sorts of tips and advice as it is a long long time since I had a puppy...she was born on Nov 13th and is adorably cute - already sits and offers her paw and we have only had one little accident in the house so far. She seems to be car sick - any advice? Hoepfully I will meet some nice new doggy friends on this forum. Rachel ![]() |

Welcome to Global Paw.
As far as car sickness....all I know of is to introduce the rides gradually...short ones at first. Hopefully the pup will out grow that. I'm so sorry for the loss of your other dogs. What a good thing to rescue them. I hope, though that this pup will be protected from being hit by a car. That is so sad and dogs just don't know much about cars and people driving cars don't see them. So, they don't mix, do they. Anyhow, glad you've joined and hope you like it. |

Hi Rachel. Welcome to GlobalPaw the friendiest Dog forum on the web. At least thats what I think.
Like Carrie said as far as car sickness. I'd introduce the pup to car rides at short distances first and make them longer as he gets older. He'll soon grow to love car rides I'm sure. |

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about the tragic loss of your 2 furpals.
Congrats on your new puppy! Chloe also used to get carsick. I found having a window open so that she got air helped somewhat but not completely. With many rides, short in duration, and lots of towels/blankets draped over the seats for easy cleanup in about a year she finally overcame it. She never shied away from getting in the car but it definitely affected her. Once she got over actually getting sick, we did have a few more months of really excessive drooling but that also cleared up completely. Good luck & I hope your little one outgrows it sooner than Chloe did! ![]() |
