New Here
Hi everybody!! I have a Husky/Malamute. She's a girl and about 9 weeks old. I've only had her for a week and she's is the most precious thing in the world after my two children. I also have a Terrier Mix. 7 months and a totally hyper and annoying dog. Anyway, I would like to know more about Huskies/Malamutes more. Please send me more info. It doesn't matter what kind of info. Anything will be good.

Welcome to Global Paw! You'll love it here, it's a wonderful community.
How much did you know about huskies and malamutes before you adopted your pup? It would help us to know what information you were looking for. Here are the websites for the Siberian Husky Club of America and the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. I'm not sure where in the world you are so the american clubs are kind of 'default' links I guess. If you're in a different part of the world do a search on google.com for your clubs. Anyway, welcome once again and I hope you'll post some pictures of your darling husky/malamute pup and your terror of a terrier soon. ![]() Cass. |

Welcome! I have two beautiful sibe girls
The light of my life and probably one of the breeds I will have for the rest of my life. One thing I can tell you, is be prepared when she blows her coat. She will shed her undercoat approximately around the time of her heat cycle. It comes out in clumps and can be a pain to clean up. Cause once you brush her, 10 minutes later she looks as if she was never brushed! LOL And, wherever you live, do not shave the dogs coat. This can ruin their coat and it will more than likely just grow back in thicker and longer. Even if a dog lives in a warmer climate, their coat acts as an air conditioner and will keep cool air in on a hot day. But don't let that deeter you from their wonderful spirits. I would enroll her in a puppy class, or some type of obedience program, because bonding is the most important key with this breed I believe. They are known to be quite hard headed and will do something ONLY if they say a purpose in doing so. This was a vital trait in this dog while out on sledding. The dog would sometimes be able to refuse the mushers command, but would end up doing so for the better. Never leave this breed off leash... they LOVE to run, and whenever they get a chance, they will, and that's how many people lose their huskies. It's not a matter of them wanting to just get away from you.. they just want to get a good run, and by the time they're done, they've run so fast and so far, they're too far from home to know how to get back, and will go home with anyone they please because of their sweet nature. I would also get her spayed as soon as you can. This way you will not have to deal with a female bleeding for 3 weeks (or possibly longer). Around this time, females will have more of an urge to run or wander, and can attract males from miles away. Males will do anything to get to a female heat, and it isn't uncommon for them to mate through a fence. She should be supervised while outside, at all times. Some females tend to become moody as well. Some are more aloof while in heat, and just want to be left alone. But it will also make for a healthier life, freeing her of any uterine cancer, or other related problems. My two girls are very precious to me, and they're a wonderful breed. As soon as she finds her voice, she'll use it a lot. They like to "talk" or sing. My oldest female Sheiba, loves to sing. While Denali likes to talk. People often get nervous when she talks because her voice is much deeper than your feminine female.. but I love it when they do it. I love to watch their mouth and tounge ![]() Well I've given you some info. Hope you have found it helpful. There are a few other husky owners on here, and OC_Spirit --Ren-- is very well informed of the breed, and could answer probably nearly any question you have about the breed. Would love to see pictures ![]() |
