This is a first for me.
My husband and I retired from California and moved to beautiful Oregon and are enjoying life. We have 2 black and white shih-tzu's, Gizmo and Sassy,1 Lasapoo, Wicket, and a grey cat named Smokey who is 14. Our Wicket will be 14 next month and is the love of our life. We got him from the pound when he was three and is the love of our life. Gizmo we bought at 4 months and he has a bit of the devil in him and a little hard headed, he is now two. Sassy was given to us after being mistreated by a woman who only wanted to use her for breeding, she kept the dog in the garage with little or no love then sold the pups and then gave her back to my friends granddaughter. Sassy is now three and we've only had her for 6 months but she gets tons of love and affection, she plays with her new brothers but still has issues of trust. When we have company she wants to hide which we think is due to being passed around from home to home. She is very happy here and we think she is afraid we will give her away. That will never happen! All of our "babies" have food allergies to beef, wheat, and corn. We have tried several brands of dog food but can't seem to find the right combination. They lick, scratch, and chew until they are miserable. Does anyone know of a dog food that will help?? |

First off, welcome to the site!
There are different hypoallergenic foods on the market. Here is one that you might be interested in: Potato&Duck Formula More food The only thing that put me off with these was the fact that the veggies where the first and second ingredient followed by the meat. Those links were just from a brief search, but from quickly scanning the ingredients it looks like they are a good brand of food. Here is an Organic formula that doesn't contain wheat, corn, or beef: Organic food This looks like a wonderful food. ![]() If you ask about the allergy-food problem in the Health Concerns forum, I'm sure you'll get a lot of helpful advice! |

Hello to all;
Thanks to Ritz459 for the information on Natural Balance. I am going to try it out and see what happens To Tinyalbinodancer, I would love to post photo's of the "kids". Just need to know how. We just got home from the races and a gentleman we were talking to also has Shih-Tzu's and he told us that his were allergic to Chicken, heaven forbid if ours are too. I hope to talk to someone tomorrow, I need to sleep, it's been almost 40 hours and I've been up all but 2 of those hours, so I definetly need to crash. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday Bye Missy D |

Hi and welcome. Would love to meet your fur-babies.
I home cook, which is the very best. You could try the ground lamb and brown rice, mix in some grated carrots and steamed broccoli. You can also feed scrambled or boiled eggs, oatmeal, cottage cheese, cheddar cheese, plain non-fat yogurt, sweet potatoes, green beans, peas, grated zucchini, alfalfa sprouts, split peas, lentils, soybeans, pinto beans, kidney beans, salmon, and more. If you want more information, you can pm me. ![]() |

To Calgal,
we have fed them Oatmeal and they absolutely love it. Do you add anything to it such as milk or butter? I have often mentioned that we should cook their meals that way we know what they are eating, but my hubby doesn't think they would get the nutritients they need. I sometimes make them scrambled eggs and they get cheese and carrots for snacks. What recipes do you use and do you freeze left overs or how do you store it?To Britishbandit;IcyBlueSibs;and Rivsky Thanks for the welcome.MissyD |
