mugsy's mom needs help
I've never been on a forum before but was hoping this one would be a good one to start with. I'm in desperate need for help with my American Bull Dog. He is all of a sudden become dog aggresive. Only when there are 3 dogs though. I know it's a protective or possesive thing but I need to stop it. It makes me very nervous to have him out. He was never like that before. Please if anyone has any suggestions for me.

Aggression of any kind is best dealt with by a professional who can actually observe your dog - do you know of any behaviourists in your area you can contact for an assessment? I hope you are able to find someone to help you.
By the way - welcome to GP! |

I presume you mean with other dogs? Unfortunately the breed is known to have this problem as do Staffies and such like and you should have been advised of this when you bought the dog!
I'm sure though that there will be people on here who may be able to give you some advice though! |

Welcome to GP! You'd probably get more information on the dog aggression if you posted in the Behavior forum.
Briarlow is correct, dog aggression in AmBulldogs isn't all that uncommon. How old is your dog? If he is just reaching maturity, that would be a reason why it has come "out of the blue". I have two dogs that are dog aggressive and one that is fear aggressive. With my DA older Lab, I was able to teach him to behave around other on leash dogs, but that was it. With my young whipper snapper DA dog we haven't gotten very far, but I'm working on it. It takes a lot of patience, practice, and desensitizing. And even after all of that work, it is likely that the true DA dog won't ever get along with other dogs and you always have to remain viligant to prevent any fights from happening and undoing all of your training. |
