Hi from a tropical land!
I am new here, but I have read through a few threads and forums and must say that it feels like one big family here!
I never had the pleasure of owning a dog, or cat when growing up, and it was only much, much later on that I was priviledged to finally own a dog, after my wife and I got our own place. Now, we have two lovely gun dogs - Eng Cockers as well as two cats, one of which believes himself to be a dog! Eventhough I come from far away, I hope to share all the joys, laughter, and yes, worries, pain and sorrows that we all face. CHEERS! |

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Actually, I posted up a few weeks ago, but due to work commitments, as well as my involvement in our local canine forum, I did not pop by here till yesterday! I'm from Singapore. Yeah, the land of never ending summers, sun-burns and canine skin problems! Hahaha... Still love it here, but wished I could be in NZ, New England or one of the other countries with a lot more natural beauty! I will try to pop by now and then, but do forgive me if I don't do so very often. I have lots of pix of my dogs, as well as others but perhaps let's start with the stories about how we came to love animals, and what happened the day our first furry one came into our lives. As mentioned briefly, I never had the chance to own a dog or a cat till much later in life. Back when I was a kid, my Ma had this thing about cats, dogs or any pet that was mobile and could not be contained in a small space. Yup, Pa and I were relegated to plants and fish! However, I was always fascinated by dogs, and every chance I got after grade school, I went going from door to door around the neighbourhood looking for dogs to walk. Luckily, most of the neighbours were familiar with me, and I got to play with and take Cockers, GSDs as well as a whole assortment of mongrels for walks fairly often! It wasn't till I was about 37 years that I finally got married, and got a place of our own (very common here for couples to live with their folks till they get married). After we settled in, before renovations, my wife hurriedly called me up one day at the office: Wife: "Dear, there's a little kitten meowing outside in the corridor! It's been goin back and forth for the past 15 minutes ... what should I do?" Me: "Open the door and take it in. If it's not familiar or apprehensive, squaq down to make yourself look smaller and sweetly coo at it. Then ............ " Wife: "Dear, I opened the door and it came straight in! Guess it must have been 'shopping' for a new home!" Me: Errr ... Ok. Go and feed it and give it fresh water. Get a basin and line it with newspaper bla bla bla ..." This was the first furry one that fate brought us: THAT, was just the beginning of a whole lot of adventures, worries, joys, pain, losses, gains and what have you in life! to be continued ... |

Ha ha, we posted at the same time. lol Your cat is cute! I've got a big fat male Tabby cat. (His name is Rush. He is 11yrs old.) He likes to run up and down the hallways at 6:00am playing 'evil tiger' and hair ties and pencils are his prey! lol
