Hi, I'm Bailey from Arkansas. I just stumbled upon this site tonight and it looked like a place that I may be able to get some tips on working with my dogs. I have a 9 week old basset hound/datschund mix named Delilah, and an 11 yr old Lab/Rot/Chow mix named BJ. Of course I am having trouble getting Delilah to leave BJ alone, he doesn't like animals or people in his face and being a hyper puppy she is always licking him in the face and all he can do is growl, bark, and snap at her to get her to stop but then within seconds she is right back in his face. Any suggestions on how I can work with her to stop this behavior? I'm am very nervous because I am afraid he will accidentally bite her...I know he doesn't want to hurt her he just wants her out of his face. I really need some help with that more than anything. I have more questions but I will wait for a response on this one before I overload anyone with all my questions. The puppy thing is a little new for me. Thanks!

Hi Bailey, welcome to Global Paw!
![]() In my opinion, the best way to stop Delilah from annoying her big brother is to distract her before she gets the chance to do so. Try offering Delilah something that is more exciting. I would suggest that when you see her going over to BJ, get her attention as quickly as you can with a food treat, toy or just acting silly and excited. She needs to learn that being around BJ does not mean she has to be all over him all the time. If you can make yourself more exciting to her, hopefully she'll come and pester you, and she'll stop pestering BJ. |

Welcome aboard!
I agree with Swift. Try and get Delilah's attention off of BJ. Find a toy that she loves, or even a nice yummy treat. Showing her that YOU always have something way more interesting than BJ. So when she hears the word "Enough", annoying BJ needs to stop, but she's rewarded lavishly when she's away from him. |
