Hello From Canada!
Hi. I'm Shanna and currently there are two dogs in my family and we will be welcoming a third at the end of November. My dog is Bear. He is a Border Collie crossed with a Chow Chow. He is three years old, my family and I rescued him from a shelter. He was severely abused, the pound had to set a trap to catch him because he would not go near people. He's doing very well now - though he doesn't like children. He's extremely lovable and very affectionate.

My sister's dog is called Zoe. She is a three year old Husky crossed with an American Eskimo dog. She was rescued from a shelter as well, but I don't think she was abused. She loves people and other dogs when she 's off the leash. She loves to bark and she adores her kong.

At the end of November I am getting a puppy. We've already chosen him. he will be four weeks old on Wednesday. He's an Akbash dog. We haven't settled on a name yet, but we do have a list of possibilities. Our favourites are:

Kuma,
Jara
Apollo
Ailchu (pronounced El cu) It's Irish for gentle hound.

I really look forward to exploring this site and meeting lot's of new people!

Hi Dogs4Life. Ailchu is my favourite name too, I'm attempting to convince my mum and sister that they really like as well, but it's not working. :-( Kuma means Bear, Apollo is the Greek sun god. Jara was a South American folk hero.We are really excited - we've never had a puppy before!

Hey Cassiepeia, I absolutely love Akbash dogs. We met the dad at the breeders and he was just gorgeous! So gentle and friendly. I'll will definitely bombard you guys with pictures when I bring him home. :-)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome, I can't wait to explore this great looking board. :-)

The Akbash's maternal instincts make them great companion dogs, so long as they are properly socialized and trained.
