Hello from Bimmer and Shiva and Kharma
Congratulations, Michael ~ and Hello, Everyone!
I'm glad to see you've got this thing up and running and successful. I know you've worked long and hard and had some hair-pulling frustrations; I remember the first time you posted an announcement on Chazhound. Some of you will recognize me and My Monsters from Chazhound. As I write this they are all crowded around my feet, and these three - especially the two girls - definitely constitute a crowd! And Kharma snoring on my feet vibrates and tickles. We won't talk about the puppy drool on the toes. I really wish I could move my feet, but that would disturb the little sweetheart, and she really needs to catch up on her sleep since she decided to get up - and wake everyone else up, too - at 4:00 a.m. for a game. Bimmer made her lay back down and be quiet. I don't know what we'd do without him. Shiva missed all the fun. She was sound asleep - and snoring - in the shower. She can reach an astounding decibel level when she's curled up, and utilizing the resonance of the shower for her sleepy concert was a stroke of genius on her part. She only woke up once to get a drink - loudly. We've given up and left the lid off the toilet tank. Shiva likes the fresh, cold water in the tank - not the bowl - and learned to nudge the top off so she can get to it. It's much less noisy and destructive if we just leave it off. So, to condense for all of you who aren't already familiar with my bunch, Charlie and I (two redheads, scary, huh?) live on a 60+ acre Angus farm in east Tennessee with Bimmer, our German Shepherd/wolf mix who is wonderful and responsible and keeps everything in order, Shiva, our darling, loving, rambunctious (now) 10 month old Fila Brasileiro who is going to be huge, even for her breed, and Kharma, also a Fila, now 5 1/2 months old; our little sweetheart who is loving and conniving and manipulative and a total drama queen. Bimmer's an excellent drover and guardian, and both girls are shaping up well in those regards, too, although Kharma is more enthusiastic about it than Shiva. Shiva's father was a show dog from Brazil and unfortunately, some of the working instincts are being bred down in the Brazillian show lines.Shiva's very bright and intelligent, though, and can't stand to be left out of anything so she's caught on to working well and quickly. All she needed was some competition. That's enough for now; I could talk about my Creatures endlessly . . . |

There are pictures, and pictures, and pictures (okay, I love taking animal photos) posted at http://www.chazhound.com/pictures/sh...500&ppuser=148.
You can also learn more about the Fila Brasileiro and see photos at www.defenderfilas.com They're really neat dogs, but they definitely aren't for everyone. They require MASSIVE amounts of attention (they're incredibly needy) from their owners, and responsible socialization from an early age. They truly are the ultimate guardian and defender dog. I talked to a girl who actually knew what they were one day, and when I asked her how she knew the breed, she made me laugh with her reply. It seems her grandmother lives in Miami and used to have a real problem with her house being broken into. She now has two Filas, and has no more problems - at all. Now the punks who make their living breaking and entering cross the street when they walk past her house! Filas don't like strangers in general, and they are very good about sensing threats. |

Thanks for the interest, Carrie. "Interesting" might be a little mild, and possible a bit kind, too, considering they're "affectionately" known sometimes as alligators with fur! (lol) Our vet really likes our girls, but even he will say that he knows less than a handful of people who would have any business being owned by one.
There is one photo I missed because I didn't have a camera with me, and I will always regret not getting it. I had Kharma at Charlie's furniture store one Saturday, and a couple came in and had their little four year old boy with them. Of course, he was fascinated with the puppy, and kept coming over and squatting down to get eye to eye with her. They would just look at each other for the longest time. Finally, Kharma laid down on the floor and rolled over on her side and the little boy stretched out on his side facing her; she reached out and put her paw on him and moved her head just a bit until she was literally nose to nose with him. They just laid there quietly for about 5 minutes or so, looking into each other's eyes and communing on some level, just a 4 year old boy and a 3 month old puppy. |
