hello...new here!! i don't currently have a dog, but i have had my share in my lifetime.. i have also worked closely with a vet here in NC, for a few years, and gained knowledge of dogs. Also worked for a leading pet store chain here too, its amazing what you learn just being in the environment with animals. I found that talking to dog owners is the best way to learn. It helps having a sister thats a dog guru too!!

Thank you bigdoglover! its nice to be on a site thats willing to help. i have been looking into getting a puppy, but it will need to be one thats good with a small child. my daughter is 3 and loves dogs too. any advice is taken well.

YEAH! another Tarheel! WOHOO! lol welcome to GP! i live in NC too! near Ft. Bragg area! so nice to have you. as for a suggestion... maybe a med sized dog, that way your daughter wont be able to accidentally harm it (ie for little dogs she could drop the pup) or if she is rele gentle then i dont see why you couldnt get a small dogs, but i have to say shelties are great! I own one and my youngest sister was abiut five and they are great w/ kids! but anyway i will shut up now!

Ritz459, you are right, mutts are great. My dad has one,,part german shepard part chow and she is the best dog!! Smart, loving and loyal!! Adoption is always a good route to take!!!!!!!!! Hope to talk to all of you soon. Again, thank you!
