Hi everyone. My Yorkie, Missie, and I are new here, so I figured I better introduce us.
Missie is my 5 year old Yorkie. I got her as a puppy, from a pet store. If I had it all to do over again, I still would've gotten her. But I am a major advocate of rescuing/fostering now, and never recommend buying a puppy from a pet store. I was only about 12 when I got her, and you don't think of anything beyond wanting that puppy at that age. I saved my money for many years to buy a Yorkie, but being a puppy mom at 12 was hell (if that's ok to say ), and I don't ever plan to get a puppy again. lol But we've learned and grown together, and she's the reason I live. Sometimes she's the only reason I get out of bed. Missie isn't the best trained dog. We still struggle with potty training. She stays in my room most of the time (she's paper trained), and she's good about going on the paper in there, but if she runs around the house for any length of time she favors going on the carpet. She loves people, all animals (one of my 3 kitties is her playmate and best bud), and going on walks. She's also an expert model. I take photos of her so often, if she sees me set up the camera, she'll go and sit in front of it! She's at least well trained in that aspect... *laughs*Okay, and me! lol I'm 17 years old, just graduated high school. I'm looking into becoming a professional dog trainer, but I'm not sure yet. I want to help people keep their dogs, and help train shelter dogs so they can be placed more easily. Small animals (rodents, especially) are my other passion, and eventually I hope to run a small animal rescue out of my home. I currently have 5 hamsters, and I'm rat-sitting my friend's two female ratties this week. I'd have all kinda of small animals if I had room. ![]() So that's us! Looking forward to getting to know y'all. ![]() |

Welcome you two! Glad you're here. I think you're really going to like this board. Can't wait to hear more stories.
I think that's wonderful that you're leaning toward rescue Kalena...a really admirable thing to do. Hydrok, gotta get that Aussie to herd the sheep. I had a German Shepherd who herded some little piglets who escaped. He hadn't been taught a thing about it. He kept them from escaping and boy could they scamper fast, rounded them up the hill and into the right area. LOL. Carrie |

Welcome, Kalena,
Glad to see someone getting passionate about rescue, especially someone of your age! Don't ever let anyone talk you out of your ideals, as happens so often when we 'grow up' and get lost in the world. Carrie and Hydrok, maybe Reilly is herding . . . cats!(lol) That's the first thing my Bimmer learned to herd. Of course, it really ticked my cat off; he thought he could just go vertical and avoid being herded - wrong! Bimmer goes vertical just like the cat! If he can do it, an Aussie like Reilly should have a pretty good shot at it, too. |

Hi Kalena and Missie....the picture of Missie in your avatar is so cute! Welcome and I love what you say about wanting to help people keep their dogs by helping to train them and also helping to train shelter dogs as well. I am a huge advocate of rescue groups and also of training. I help out where my two dogs take obedience classes. I guess I'm learning to be an assistant trainer for now. I've done two summers of Beginner obedience and also puppy kindergarden. It's really fun and I've learned so much about dogs. Follow your dreams and you'll be successful. :-)
