Hi again,
Breeding dogs is something that you should take VERY seriously. Not every dog should be bred. If you do it right is can be very expensive. Dachshunds (like all purebred dogs) carry genetic diseases. You have to have health testing done before you breed them or else they can pass on diseases to their puppies and this can be very expensive. Even if your dog isn't sick her genes can still carry these diseases. In all reality only show dogs should be bred. You see a show is an evaluation of breeding stock, if a show dog does a lot of winning than that means that judges are approving the dog to be bred. If your dog is not a show dog then chances are it is not going to pass on good Dachshund traits to it's puppies. When people breed their pets they are producing puppies that are more and more unlike Dachshunds. I know you love Dachshunds so I'm sure you don't want that to happen. There is also the fact that your Dachshund could get very hurt in the process of breeding. She could get sick or even die whelping. I don't want to scare you, just warn you. Breeding isn't "for fun" you have to stay home for weeks to make sure the mother is giving the puppies proper care and you have to remember that if something happens to the mother you have to hand raise the litter. That means staying up day and night to feed the puppies using a bottle. Also you shouldn't breed a litter unless you have homes already lined up, if you can't gaurantee buyers that your Dachshund is purebred than it isn't going to be easy to find homes for them and they could end up in shelters where thousands and thousands of dogs are being put to sleep every year. If you bring puppies into the world you are respomsible to them for LIFE. Are you willing to take any puppy back at any age if the buyer is unable to keep it? You would be giving your puppy a much happier life if you have her spayed. I hope you think about the things I've said, I am not critisizing you or trying to upset you just give you an idea of what breeding really is! ![]() |

i didnt know half of what you said. i think that she would take care of her puppies and im ready and willing to take care of them if she doesnt. I will take her to the vets very soon and have the vets approval if im questioning her ability to cary pups. I would do nothing to harm her and if the vet says that she is not able to cary pups so be it. I thought that i would give her a chance to be a mom but if that means putting my puppy in danger i wont do it. I am willing to take them back if the owners dont want them, i will probably have homes lined up for them too. I shouldnt even be thinking of this she is going on 5 months and shes to young. If i do decide to breed her i promise you that i will take every precaution that i can and will do any thing for her to be comfortable. I want her looks to rub off on her pups but the thing that i want more than that is her personality. i love her personality. shes a very sweet dog and i think that breeding her would make her a more loving dog and i think that she would pass the test with flying colors

That's great that you are willing to be responsible for any puppies that you might bring into the world
I'm sorry you didn't understand some of what I said, what I mean is that when you breed a purebred dog that dog is going to pass on not only it's personality but also it's physical charecteristics (the way it looks) if that dog doesn't have looks that fit the Dachshund standard then it's going to produce puppies that look less like Dachshunds or traits that could even cause health problems for their puppies. Every purebred dog has a breed standard. A standard is a written guidline that describes what the perfect Dachshund should look and act like. If a dog fits this standard then it is a show quality dog. So let's say that a Dachshund that someone is thinking about breeding has the perfect Dachshund personality as described in the standard but doesn't have a perfect head or, back or legs, than you should not breed it just for personality alone. There are a lot of Dachshunds out their that have perfect bodies and temperments and are being bred that breeding your girl just to pass on the personality isn't something that has to be done and it probably shouldn't be done. I'm glad that you want to talk to your vet about it, your vet will have lots of good advice. I know you love your Dachshund and will take really good care of her If your interested type in these words in your search engine: The Dachshund Club of America :and check out this web-site it has a lot of good info on Dachsie's and as a Dachsie lover you might enjoy it! |

You mentioned that your willing to take back puppies if the owners no longer want them so I'm wondering how many you plan on keeping out of any possible litter, how many you would have room to take back and what happens say eight years down the road when one of those pups comes back to you with medical issues requiring daily medications or possible surgery? Ok, maybe it is more than one question all wrapped up. ![]() |

when i said that i didnt know what half of what you said i ment like thats the first time some one told me like i didnt know that info before. I'm gong to be atleast 16 before she has any puppies and have a job. and when she does have puppies, and they do get sick 5 or 6 years later I'll be 21 or 22 yrs old and im getting a ranch with my best friend. so we will have plenty of room, even if they bring them back in a couple of years , then ill find new homes. Im not planing on keeping any out of her litter because i already have two dogs and i dont feel like going through the puppy stage again
I'm not even sure if my parents would let me breed her. i just want to.I wouldnt give them to a person who couldnt take care of them. I'm really glad that you think I'm a good mom and i see your concern, i want her puppies to carry on her looks and personality and if i thought that it wouldnt happen than i wouldnt do it. I will be with her and if I feel like it isnt in HER best intrest than i wouldnt do it.thats all for now, daisy and freckles |
