Welcome!!
And I 2nd Carrie's post. Overweight dogs normally have problems, but with a Dachshund being over weight......that can actually 'kill' the dog. It causes way to much stress on their back, and that can lead to paralysis. My cousin has a Dachshund named Bailey, and Bailey was way overweight. They are 'attempting' to slim her down, but I don't know how well that is going. I feer for that dogs back because not only was she overweight, be she 'sits pretty' (begs) and jumps alot and I'm afraid that one day that will cause a slipped disk in her back. I've tried to talk to them about it, but it hasn't gone so well.....Well, anyway, that was a bit off topic so I'll just say WELCOME! again!! lol ![]() |

she doesnt eat that much, she only eats at dinner and breakfast. can the vets tell if she is pure breed or not? i dont really care i just want to know b/c the persom who gave her to me said that she was a pure breed but she said that she didnt have the papers. i saved her from a life in the crate, the person didnt have any time to take her out.

ask your friend a couple more questions they are the only people who will truly know.... also your vet will tell you the right amount of food to feed.

Welcome! I have two Dachshunds. Leo a pure black, and Brinkley a red. I understand about the problems of other dogs eating a pups food. How about you try putting your husky in another room while the puppy eats? That way she can eat and not feel like she has to defend her food. If there is one thing a Dachshund LOVES it's there food, as they grow they can become very defensive of there food so it's a good idea to make them feel safe while they eat.
Dachsie's were bred to hunt badger so they are very full of themselves A vet can give you an educated opinion on whether or not she's purebred, but you'll never know for sure. Can you post some pictures? We would love to see her I hope you enjoy it here! There are a lot of very knowledgable people that are very helpful. Congratulations on your new pup! |
