Linnie, your kidding, yep tis from Bendigo Australia, although I don't live there, but that is where I got the name from..lol.
So you would know of East Gippsland?? That is where I am. Thanks RipsGirl, happy to be back.. Crossfire, how on earth did you cope with silent heats..I thought Psuedo's were bad enough, you wouldn't have known what the heck was happening her first time then. I forgot did you say she had litters of pups at all? Science of the dogs is so broad, we know very little really, they are still working on it, I mean there still isn't a simple pregnancy test yet for them. Every bitch is different that's for sure, I have been researching Psuedo's, and color genetics for a couple of years now, and it is all very much, pot luck really when it comes to science, they have narrowed it down, but there isn't anything out there 100% accurate of specific. Not in those two categories anyway. Not getting too technical, cause I never remember the tech. names lol. Psuedo's happen when the bitch comes into heat, the thyroid(?) produces a hormone, this prepares them for pups, in some instances (always with mine..grrr) this hormone is not turned off, so they continue on even if a mating has not taken place, to think they are pregnant. It is not a psycological problem it is actually a hormonal one. Probably not telling you anything new here, but thought others may be interested too. So what causes the Silent Heat? Hormonal, I guess it is real, if they can produce pups. |

Very much the same as the psuedo; a hormonal issue and caused in my opion anyway by thyroid levels, after a year and a half it was obvious to us there was a problem and I began checking her progesterone levels often, after tracking the levels for a year it was fairly simple to figure out when we needed to start a base line level and go from there for breeding purposes.
Yes, she did eventually have a litter but the first time we attempted breeding her we missed due to the lab losing her bloodwork. She never did go through a "normal" heat cycle. |
