I heard about this site from a member of Guinea Pig Cages and thought I'd give it a try. I only have one dog and 2 finches right now since we're getting ready to move across the country. I have been doing Guinea Pig fostering for the local shelter for several years, and in the past have owned tons of different pets. I've been looking for a good site to talk/ask questions about dogs, so hopefully this will be the one!

Welcome to the site! I'm "blackrose" on Guinea Pig Cages, but this is my favorite forum out there. Hope you enjoy it here!

Thank you for all the nice welcomes!

I currently have an Aussie named Shep that I adopted from the local pound after losing my soulmate of nearly 12 years...a Dalmatian named Cooper. Coop was that "once in a lifetime" dog that can never be replaced, and my heart still aches when I think of him (which is every day) over a year later. About 2 months after I lost him I was so depressed and lonely, and I decided I had to find another dog to help me heal. When I saw Shep at the pound, he was tucked in the back corner of his run, sitting with one paw held up, and staring at me with his ice blue eyes as if to say "Please...can you help me?" I think I probably had the exact same expression on my face, and a bond was formed.

I brought him home, and he was terrified of everything and everyone. He was one year old, and it was painfully obvious that he had never been properly socialized. I suspect he spent most of his time in a crate or locked in the back yard alone, but I can't be sure. But after a year of hard work, he is doing really well. We go to the dog park almost every day, and he's no longer afraid of people there and will even go up and greet them. When we go into stores, he doesn't hide behind me anymore. And he's alot more accepting of other people coming into the house, where as he used to put his hackles way up and growl terribly at them.

He has helped me so much, and I'm really glad we found each other.

Ohhhh...Aussie puppies! They're so cute! Where are you in Colorado? We're in the process of moving to the Boulder area.

Bandit does for sure, but sydney's eyes seem to be getting darker. They will be 5 wks old on monday, and are already troublesome! But i am going to miss them when they are gone.
I hope you like colorado, it isn't a bad place to live.
My brother lives in watertown new york. Will it be a pretty big change from new york to CO?

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you! Watertown is northeast of us. Small world, huh? We've camped in Colorado for years, so we're very familiar with the area. Yes, it will be quite different, but we have wanted to move out there for years, so it's something we're very excited about.

Welcome to GP! Looks like you have your hands full with all your pets and moving.

I agree, Shep is adorable. Sounds like all your hard work socializing is playing off.
