puppy owner
hi all,
i'm new here, and looking for some advice as well as thoughts on what my lab might be mixed with. i know he's 3/4 lab, but the rest we're not sure about. he might be part chow... but he's pretty small (25 lbs, 4 months).... anyway, he's pretty hyper, likes biting the crap out of us and likes barking when we aren't paying attention to him. any advice? i'm a grad student at indiana university and i'll be getting married in a month! ![]() |

First off, Welcome to GP!
Second, I am thinking maybe some pit, or chow. Third, try a Kong filled with diffrent treats of kibble, peanut butter if he likes it. Or other toys, or bones will even keep him busy! |

Welcome!
I don't see the Chow, but that picture is just one angle. Does his tongue have any purple to it? His coat looks sleek and Chows are double-coated. They also have flatter, wider backs, and a stilted gait when they move... I just don't see that in your pup. ![]() Are you sure he's not all Lab? He's very cute! |

Ain't I handsome!

I don't see anything else in him but lab. He looks all lab...actually he looks just like my pup!
Congrats on the upcoming nuptials, I'm newlywed myself (six months -- it feels like 60 years already...) Yes it's true, the first year is the hardest, don't let it get to you, just walk away and get over it. ![]() Here's some pics of my baby. You can see how much they look a like. My husband used to have a lab/chow mix and it looked nothing like yours at all! |

I would guess maybe part pit, but that will be hard to tell until it gets a little older. I would say make sure the pup keeps busy, and this will help with the behavior. Do not allow him to bite, or it will be a pain to curtail later. Toys and your bone of choice will give him the needed outlet for his chewing. Make sure to watch him though, a lot of dog toys can be a choking hazard when they are ripped to shreds.
Good luck and congrats on the marriage. |

Thanks everyone for all the comments! All of your dogs are soo cute! =) In response to Kade, yes he certainly does have purple on his tongue; that's why some people think he's part chow. Indeed his coat is sleek and short, but what you can't see at the angle of the picture is that he's kind of stout in the body. Actually, when we first got him, he was a little bit fuzzier and looked like a bear. Now he's starting to look more and more like a lab - which is fine with me! =)

Interesting! Would love to see more photos. FWIW, I know a couple of Lab/Chow mixes and they're very nice dogs.
