Another newbie!
Hi there,
I signed up in April, but have just been lurking until now. This seems like a pretty fun place, so I decided to jump in! I have two little dogs, a 2 1/2-year-old Maltese and a 3 1/2-year-old Bichon/Shih tzu. My Bichon/Shih tzu (who is apparently 1/2 Bichon Frise, 1/2 Shih tzu, but I think of her more as a Shih tzu X because I don't really know what's in there) is a little cutie named Mocha (hence my username "chocolatecoffee"). She's a tiny one at around 8 lbs. I got her at 7 1/2 weeks and three days later she had bladder stones and a bladder infection which she had gotten through the umbilical cord at birth, which is why we think she's not as big as she should be (her parents were around 13 lbs.). Yep, she obviously didn't come from a good breeder, but she's a cutie-pie and I love her .My Maltese (who's a bit bigger than normal at around 10 - 11 lbs.) is named Panna, which means "whipped cream" in Italian (get it, Mocha with Whipped Cream...). We just celebrated her 6 month "gotcha day" on July 17th. I had been looking for a second dog for months, but it had to be a rescue and there weren't any small rescues around me (Mocha's scared of big dogs and small dogs fit into my lifestyle better). I figured I'd look into getting a dog from elsewhere, and after several dogs not working out (couldn't arrange transportation), I found a 2-year-old Maltese that needed a home in Las Vegas. So she flew up to Canada with a friend of ours, and settled nicely into our home. She's extremely timid, especially around strangers, and we think she was neglected. When we got her she constantly cowered, didn't know her name or any commands, her teeth were in horrible condition, and she didn't trust anybody. She now has a lot more confidence, knows her name, basic obedience commands, and a couple of tricks, had a good teeth cleaning (now her breath isn't so unbearable), and has gotten used to being held (she's still a bit unsure of herself around strangers, but she's getting much better). She's a bit clumsy (runs into walls, has a bit of trouble eating), but she's my little star, she's come so far. Anyways, this introduction seems to be just a bit longer than most, so I'll cut it off here. I'm glad I found this forum, the people here seem pretty cool! Oh, and my favourite breeds of dogs are the APBT and Doberman Pinschers, they're so beautiful! My little ones have a special place in my heart though . Hope to talk to you all soon! |

What wonderfully "sweet" names you gave your babies.
Thank you for giving them a wonderful home, care, attention and love. Sounds like we have another person that's totally "in-love" with their fur babies. You picked the right forum. ![]() |
