Welcome! I think Huskies are beautiful too. A lot of people have them here in north Idaho and many travel here in the winter for sled races. It's awesome to see them do their thing. Also for the sled racing, a lot of people use dogs which are not Huskies or Malamutes...I see mix breeds and other types.

Is it hot for them where you live? Or are they just plain well insulated?

Anyhow, I'm interested to hear more about your dogs and can't wait to see pics.

Welcome again!

Carrie

Welcome to the forums!

I love Huskies, the ones I know all have such unique personalities. (Well, all dog have a unique personality, but Huskies seem to vary so much within the breed)

You know, I heard somewhere that shaving a snow dog in the warm climate actually makes them more prone to the heat? Their double coat supposedly insulates them. Yes, random, I know... Anywho, can't wait to hear more about your dogs!

thats true....once they are "old" its not quite the same, but for puppies and prime age dogs it can make things a lot worse...old snow dogs (like my parents) can be (though not always) better off being cut down. Their fur doesnt work the same or grow in the same once they reach a certain age. My parents dog is part Husky, and turning mostly grey now...

Exactly! Buster was well-insulated when he was younger, but once he turned 10 we started shavng him because he just couldn't handle the heat, and his hair does nothing for him.
