Vizslas, duh

Hello! My name is Amy and I own a Vizsla Named Kobe. He's only a year and a half old. He's a great dog, one of the best dogs that we've had. Oh and by the way, I am only 15.
He is pure, and I was wondering if anyone else had a Vizsla [female ] for Kobe. I am breeding him, but only once. Then he will be fixed. If I cannot find him a mate before he's 4-5, I will fix him right away. Anyway, I am just intruducing the both of us and I am hoping to post more pictures of my great dog. And maybe some of the other dogs that we have here at home. Well, thanks for reading! Much love, Amy & Kobe ![]() |

Hi Amy, welcome to Global Paw!
![]() I met a hungarian vizsla puppy once and he was really cute (if a bit bouncy!) Do you have any photos of Kobe? I have a Jack Russell x Maltese Terrier named Harley, and a Chihuahua named Abby.I hope you enjoy being a member here. |

Hello and welcome!
If you want to breed your dog, does he have the health tests that the breed requires? And is he show quality? I suggest you think through this breeding thing, because the one thing we don't need more of is BYBs. |

Yeah, we have thought about that. I dont want to affend anyone at all! sorry. but anyway, Kobe is show worthy, but they didnt allow him to show because his tail isn't docked. I guess it's a requirement. He is 100% healthy, at this point, but he's too young to even consider breeding. I have other dogs here at the house too, a chihuahua and 2 pekingues. Kobe may be the biggest, but he isn't tollerated that much by the little ones, he's been put in his place many times

That's a shame that his tail wasn't docked. Why did his breeder not do that? I suspect that his parents were not shown, and so it's really anyone's guess as to if he is truly show worthy. Viszlas are beautiful dogs, and my suggestion would be to love him for all he is worth, but have him neutered. If you have him neutered now, you will reduce his chances of many types of cancer, and completely eliminate the possibility of testicular cancer. If you wait until he is 4, 5 etc, that is every year that his chances of cancer and prostate problems go up.
If you find that you love this breed of dog, and would like to get involved in possibly breeding, plan on purchasing one that has papers and comes from Champion bloodlines. Then, go out and show that pup to your heart's content, earning him as many titles as possible. Then, if you still have your heart set on breeding, and your pup passes all the screenings, etc, you can begin to offer him out for stud, but, remember, studding is different than having the dam. Very, very few stud dogs are used more than a few times. By the time you have invested $1000's of dollars in preparing a dog to stud, you may only see 1 stud service in return, if that. I have a 23 month old Weimaraner. We have been around the ring 100's of times, and he is showing extremely well. We still have hips, elbows and thyroid to do, and maybe cardiac too for good measure. Those vet bills alone could reach $1000. He can't have that done for another month, and then... we'll see what happens. If I really want any chance of breeding with him, I will have to special him until he reaches the Top Ten Weimaraners in the US, and then, I have to be choosy about who I allow him to breed with, because of his genetic makeup. So, of the ten bitches that want to breed, I may only ethically allow 3 or 4, and I'm still being highly optimistic when I think that there will be ten interested. And it never stops, there's still bruccellosis testing, feeding, routine vet visits, etc. etc. Owning a stud dog does not mean you breed him to the Viszla from across town, or even across state. That is unethical and irresponsible. I believe you said you were almost 16, so I understand you are not in complete control of Kobe, but if you do your research, you will be able to present a clear argument to your parents when they take the step to do something that is not in the breeds, Kobe's or your best interest. |

Yes, thank you for the advise Novel! :P His parents did show, but not for very long, and the breeders just didnt want to dock their tails on this litter because they were curious to see what they'd look like with longer tails and they didnt think anyone who was purchasing a pup was interested in showing them. You're right, I should do more research on this breeding thing, I am already changing my mind. He is way better off as a companion and a long time friend than having to risk the chance of having him get sick just because i wanted to breed him once. I've talked to my vet about it once or twice, she gave me the same advise, but said if i really wanted to do it, to be sure that he's very healthy and that he's ready and that we make sure the other dog is pure. Of course, neutering was her first opinion, like everyone elses.
Thanks for the advise. ![]() I'm sucking it up like a sponge. |
