APBT's & My Mastiff baby
|
Hello from Michigan
Hi All,
I am new to this website, actually was doing a google search for something else and came across this fun little community. I am a proud parent of four American Pitbull terriers and one 3-legged french Mastiff. I work for an emergency veterinary hospital and love every day with my kids and pets. I live in MI where my babies haven't been banned, but so long as smart owners have these very intelligent dogs, then no trouble will come. Look forward to tons of great discussions ![]() |

Hi ebrent! My mom is from Michigan. Not all that far away from you either! I lived in Michigan until recently but I am thinking of moving back.
Welcome to the forum (as one newbie to another)! What happened to your Mastiff that it only has 3 legs?? Jessie |

Wow! What an incredibly warm welcome, thank you everyone for being so inviting.
"Stormy" my 3-legged mastiff, was actually a rescue from the emergency animal hospital that I work for. Her owner (also known as her back yard breeder) came in with her when she was only 21 days old, her front limb was extremely swollen and he had not money or interest in treating her, he instructed our doctor to "put her to sleep", this is when I intervened, she became mine, thus started out 4 month long drama. We treated the infection in her leg for about a week, then had to place a penrose drain to help to drain some of the infection off, but even after all that she was still walking knuckles down of that leg. One day one of the doctors was looking at her and looked straight into her leg, could see the bone and nothing else. She informed me that this was not right and took her right away to have one of our surgeons look at her. After an exam and a few xrays by the surgeon he informed me that she had a severely fractured growth plate that was irreversible and was recommending amputation. I cried, I didn't know what to do, and then I did what I had to do, I allowed her to be amputated at 4 weeks old. Let me tell you this dog NEVER has skipped a beat, she sometimes out runs my pitbulls and she sometimes is more intimidating to strangers that my pitbulls, but she is the love of my life and I wouldn't trade her for anything. |
