Hola
Hey! I'm a newbie -- proud mom to an 18-month-old lab/mix (a shelter pup just waiting for us to bring him home).

I'm editing just a few moments later to explain my quest ... I'm in NC and for the first time took him to an off-leash dog park this weekend.

Best. Experience.Ever.

But that park was 3 hours away, and I'm determined to start one (or help others start one) closer. Anyone been involved with this? Any suggestions, hints, tips?

I can't believe it took me this long to get Ebb to a dog park; but now that I did I think every town should have one! Or at least my town should

Hi and welcome. Good luck getting a dog park. I checked on this once and found you have to have some really great insurance. (which isn't cheap). Since there is no profit to be made on a park, you end up spending a lot of money for upkeep, and worry you wont get enough donations to cover it.
