Horse WIP

This is a picture I took of my sisters baby girl horse. They call her Mira because no one knew the mommy horse was expecting until out came Mira. I figured while I waiting for supplies I need to finish the Kitten picture I would start this one. It is 11X14 in prismacolors. I am still working on the eye and not happy with the background yet. But thought I would give you all a peek.

Update

Even though I am on my 3rd cast I have went back to work and haven't had much time to draw. But here is a update to what I got so far. I know it needs a lot more layers yet to bring out the darks and detail more. But thought a update was way over due.

Another Update

Here is another update. I am kind of getting frustrated with it. I know it needs more detail but even though I have good paper and don't have many layers on it yet unlike the kitten I did. It does not seem to want to take more layers. So may have to find something else to try and come back but don't like to do that because I want it done to give to my sister. Any ideas? Plus any suggestions to get the color to match more?

That's really beautiful!! If you want her to look more like the photo, I would suggest adding blues, purples and greys, softly and with the side of a pencil, to get shadows. Good luck!

Finished

I think I am going to call it finished before I mess it up. Now I just need to figure out where to sign it at.

It's amazing to see the steps you've taken to get to the finished product. It looks fabulous and I bet your sister is going to love it! Her filly is so adorable.

Thank you! I am glad to fininally finish it also so I can give it to my sister and start something else. This was the first time I could not seem to get the color right on something. But sure it won't be the last.

Thank you! Glad you like it. I posted on another site and it bombed. They had all kinds of comments saying I need more color, the neck is all wrong, the mouth is to bent etc. But glad you all have liked it so far.

It's really good! The only thing I see that could be done is lighten the area on the neck that's by the jaw so it looks like the light is shinning on it like in the real picture, and let the shading on the throat taper off gradually as it goes on down. Can't wait to see the finished result. How long have you been drawing? I tried drawing a horse once and it looked more like a dog. I never tried again.

This is only the 6 picture I have tried to do with prismacolor colored pencils. Other than that I only drew in high school a little. But that was back in the mid 80's So when last school year I worked with a special needs girl and she took art class they wanted me to do the projects with them so I could help her. When they brought out the prismacolors and I did my first picture a puppy I was hooked. Now I am just trying to learn and experiment with different papers and techniques and I am glad I found these boards to get others opinions and see others work. It has been great.
