Art Class #4 - Pastel
Hi everyone
![]() first step is to make you photo the same size as your intended painting 2... get a board and stick your picture to one side and your art paper to the other... I chose an apricot paper as that is the colour I see in the background of Buster. ![]() ![]() As you can see above I then use a ruler and starting with the left side I measure in to the first part of fur and put a dot then I go across to get the right side this helps with proportion. especially the eyes. I do the centre of the eye then the outer then the depth to get the angle. This is really good for noses too as they are much larger than we think ![]() You can see on the picture above I have dotted it out ready to fill in. Do this with the ears and mouth. It is a wonderful way to get proportion and if you are lucky enough to have a long ruler you can leave it lined up and do a little math and put the dot in I started with my ruler on 0 on the left then started my art paper at 21 inches on right so if the dot to make the eye was 6 inches in I would go 27 inches and put a dot to mark the beggining of my eye for the picture. Hope that makes sense if not please ask ![]() |

Sorry I havnt been able to get on sooner but have had a migraine and I cant do art when I have one
![]() Next step is to make your dog come to life by doing the eyes. I like to do them as once you have these right you know your dog is just going to work ![]() Dont make the mistake of trying to do your dogs eyes brown. That may be the final colour but beneath it is many other colours. I used pink as the base coat on Buster then I used indigo blue yellow ochre and a light brown. Putting all these colours in as base make the eyes alive. You dont actually finish them but rather nearly so. The eye on the left is first stage the eye on the right is second stage. At this time you can add a little colour around the face but look into the picture and actually see the rainbow of colour in your dogs picture. ![]() I have chosen pink yellow orange and blue for Buster yet he is essentially a golden dog ![]() then add more colours according to the shading of your dog and at this stage you can start to blend the pastels together with your finger or a cotton bud. ![]() next step to follow lol |
