Funky Cat - WIP (drawing)

Hey everyone! It's been a long time since I posted anything in this forum, especially a WIP, so I thought it was about time.

I found an image of a Sphynx cat (yes these 'hairless' cats aren't really all that hairless ) on the art forum I visit and it was part of a weekly drawing event.

The image is from their copyright free image reference library.
He's a funky cat alright. I couldn't not draw him. Soooo...here are two shots of my beginnings. I'm only just starting to do the glasses now. I'll posted updated shots a little later.
But so far what I've done (and this is in graphite -0.7 mechanical pencil- on plain old, not very good quality, sketch pad paper) is sketch the outline lightly so I can see that everything looks right and in proportion and then I've started his eyes. Although they may look like I've finished them, I will go back and do more work on them later. I want to darken the darks and lighten the lights a little more. To really make them pop.

I don't know if you can tell, but I tried to fix the size of the left lense because it seemed a little out of proportion to me. I've made it slightly smaller in the second picture. The shape is still not perfect but I'll get to that. It's very difficult to draw circles and elipses free hand, and all my work is free hand.

Sorry for the quality of the images, I haven't got a working scanner right now. Should have it in a few days though.

Cass.

That is so cool, Cass! I love the glasses. Can't wait to see it once it's finished.

Not much of an update, but I've been having trouble with the lenses. I think I might leave them and come back to them later before they frustrate me too much. LOL

I'm desperate to start work on those gorgeous ears, so I think that's where I'll head next. Yes, I kinda work all over the place, but that just me.

The fur/skin will be interesting. I've never drawn an animal that is considered hairless before. I think I might lay down some graphite for tone before venturing into any actual fur strokes (although those will be kept to a minimum, lest I destroy the fact that it's a Sphynx I'm drawing LOL).

Cass.
